connection problem please help

so i recieved a windows xp cd copy from my dad boss so i could reboot my emachine(model not sure of). anyway, after installing winxp i noticed i couldnt connect to the internet.

the setup in my house is as follows.

a modem running a cat9 cable to a router. 2 more ethernet cables, one from the router to my moms computer.
the other to my computer.

so i reset the modem, router, and both computers.

my mom gets a perfect connect. although mine doesnt.

one of my friends told me i needed a driver?? but he said i could dl it from a number of websites.

another thing, i pulled up my control panel and checked the network connections and nothing showed up, not one.

can someone help me, i have no idea why i get no connection.

Re: connection problem please help

You have no connection b/c your ethernet controller is not installed. You will need to find out the model # of your emachine system and go to their website on another computer, enter your model # and find the LAN or ethernet controller driver download.
Copy it to a flash drive or cd and then install it on your computer. After you reboot, you should have a Local Area Connection and it should automatically obtain an IP Address from the router, and you should be able to access the internet.

Just post back if you have any more questions.
