Computer very hot

My computer sometimes gets very hot, and in the past few weeks when I've been playing video games it will get so hot that it gives me this blue screen for 5 seconds, and then it shuts down.

I'm a total noob so forgive me because I have no idea what the problem here is and how to resolve it.

Can anyone help?

Re: Computer very hot

some simple stuff to do first, check and make sure all fans are working properly. open the case and make sure its dust free. make sure theres plenty of air circulation around the computer. Try running the comptuer as normal with the cover off and see if it still shuts down. If it does, then there could be other problems.

I tried to open my laptop once but there were all these things sticking together that I was afraid I might ruin my computer if I opened it.

Thanks for your suggestion though. I think a can of compressed air would help. Is there anything else? Or any software even?

Re: Computer very hot

This may sound silly but a normal fan may work? I used to do that when playing online games for hours, worked out a little bit.

My System

Re: Computer very hot

To see the 'blue screen of death' (BSOD) without the computer restarting, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup & Recovery Settings button > System Failure and remove the checkmark from 'Automatically restart'. The full BSOD message and error code will help pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Are you using a cooling pad for your laptop?

Re: Computer very hot

Maybe you could tell us what brand and model laptop you have.

you did not mention it was a laptop, dont take that apart unless you know what you are doing.

So will it still give me the BSOD but not restart? Meaning will my game still be abruptly ended as it has been in the past few weeks?

And no I don't have a cooling pad, and frankly I've never heard of one. But I think I'll buy one first thing tomorrow if it helps.

Yes but it will allow you to write down the error code on the BOSD then you can post it and we won't be guessing at the problem.(or at least not so many guesses)
