Hello!
First of all I am super happy to find this huge forum! This will make resolving problems much, much easier (with video games, too!) I have WinXP. Had a nasty virus and had to reformat -everything-, even tearing down and rebuilding a partition to make sure the virus was completely wiped out. After much reinstalling, I got my system back up and downloaded the basic programs: Zone Alarm Spybot S&D Ad-Aware Trillian All sorts of WinXP updates (most of them were done after I reinstalled this stuff). I added google toolbar, and other antispyware toolbars that were included with the aforementioned programs. Here's the problem: I can't for the life of me connect to AIM or ICQ. Not through trillian, not through the base programs and not even access their websites. What could possibly be blocking me from the servers? Yahoo! and MSN both connect without any problems. I've been able to access all other websites I've tried except AOL and ICQ's pages. A friend mentioned Zone Alarm has a nasty habit of blocking them. So I tried disabling Zone Alarm, I tried disabling -all- my browser add-ons, I tried reinstalling trillian with just the basics running in the background (zone alarm, tea timer, etc.) Tried adjusting the Zone Alarm settings, too. I also checked trillian forums for any conflicts with AIM or ICQ servers and WinXP updates but couldn't locate anything. Everyone I know has no trouble connecting to the servers. I'd browse AOL and ICQ's forums, but can't access them! :P Any suggestions? I'm completely stumped. ![]() Thanks a bunch! Neko |

Re: XP Updates conflict? AIM and ICQ
UPDATE:
I resolved the problem. Yay! After reinstalling everything a second time, and realizing not only does my PC not connect, but my Mac and my roommate's computer also -- I realized the culprit could be my DSL modem. Crespo PC Serv had suggested a router problem earlier, and I did end up resetting everything on my DSL modem to its defaults and it worked! Still not sure why it blocked those two servers, but I'm glad it's resolved. Thanks greatly for your help! Neko |
