Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
When I use Windows Media Player for playing MP3 files after 9sec of playing the MP3 a download window opens offering me to download Windows Media Player Flash Codec Plugin from www.flashcodec.com, I choose save but AVG antivirus reports it as a trojan and the download gets interrupted, this keeps poping out, it's annoying and stops WMP from working, also when it happends IE temporary opens a new tab with adress "http://isvbr.net/?t=3&embedded=false"(When I open it I get the download link). Got any idea what to do to stop? i think this mite hav happned bc when for the first time i oppened am mp3 file on the wmp it said that it need an file extention for it(dun rember the exact words) and i clicked yes and i also clicked on dont show this dilog again check to!

Re: Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
You probibly need the codec so I would download it.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm Its not a good idea to run programs with extentions not recognised but in this case im sure its just a codec problem. Last edited by Mack : 07-22-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

This sounds more like a malware problem to me - post to the security thread and folow their instructions. |

Re: Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
Hi Try the following
1) download this Utility http://www.infospyware.com/Software/.../FS-MP3Fix.zip using a download manager eg. Free Download Manager 2) Extract the files to the folder with the mp3's 3) double-click on FS-MP3Fix.exe 4) type in 2 for english and press enter 5) hit the Enter Key again and wait until it's finished processing 6) hit the Enter Key again to Finish 7) delete the mp3's without the '_FS added the file name and try the songs now |

Re: Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
It's NOT an mp3 file. It's most likely a wma file renamed as such, or a wmx file (windows media file redirector). Those contain popups (damn microsoft for allowing that in their windows media files - damn them really!).
It's a very common scheme on file sharing networks: fake files with popups (or the video) that says "you need to go to site xyz and download missing codec/activex plugin", and it turns out it's a trojan or some other form of malware. Thank god you had AVG running! flashcodec.com is one such scam/malware site! steer clear of it! Finally here's how to check that the file is not an mp3: get gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot (get version 2.70a - version 2.21 can't read mpeg) and open the "so-called mp3" with it. If it were really an mp3, you should see one MPEG audio stream (try it on other MP3 files) |

Re: Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
HI!
I haven't search how to resolve this problem but I have my own (simply, if you have SoundForge or simmilar prg.) way to solve the problem: 1. Load infected mp3 file into SF (SoundForge) 2. (you will see one "line" named: CMD URLANDEXIT http://isvbr.net....) 3. Right click on it and than chose: DELETE 4. Save mp3 file under the same (or any other) name 5. .... anjoy! Salute, Tomislav (you will find my "official" mail on: www.tpencro.com) |

Re: Windows Media player Dosent play MP3's
Well done!?
You got no more problem! Deleted mp3's surely can't play but solution is still there - up! Everything you need to do (but now you can't!) was to clean one GRAPHIC line in which is STORED old DOS command (.com - CMD in WIN's)) with it's direction " performed" by trojan virus (did you clean him?)! Salute! |
