XP No Go!!
Ok well my cuzin called me up and told me to come check out her pc. When i got there i realized her hard drive we completly trashed... her husband decided to open it and clean it lol.
so she had a dual boot win 98 and XP Pro, i took it home windows 98 still boots up and runs perfectly. I then install XP home on another hard drive, take the win 98 hdd out and set the jumpers to master. When i turn the pc on it indicates the XP hdd is the master, but will not boot. It wont boot in safe node with command prompt or safe mode or last know.. or normally. When i boot in safe mode it stops loading at the driver names mup.sys. I know the os on the hdd is fine because it will work in my computer and another one i have. her computer can fun it, she had XP Pro on hers for 6 yrs she has a emachine etower 633ids.. its old but i dont see why it wont boot. any help? ive tried so many things. thanks |

Re: XP No Go!!
Wait, if the WinXP is Master, does she still have the other (Win98) hard drive connected?
IF THIS IS THE CASE, it should be jumpered as Slave IF it's on the same IDE cable as the WinXP Master. You can leave the Win98 hard drive Master IF it's on the other IDE cable, but remember, any other device (like a CD-ROM) on that same cable must be Slave. In addition, if you did not create the new WinXP hard drive with the Win98 hard drive connected, it would not see a dual boot system. That MAY be your problem IF the Win98 drive is connected. |

Re: XP No Go!!
It was a dual boot, until the hard drive was trashed. I put a new hard drive in it with xp on it, but it wont boot. i think it maybe a driver issue cuz when i put it in my pc it says that the video driver and pci and modem rnt installed.

Did you put the drive in your machine and install XP on it. Then took the drive and put it in your cousin`s machine? If that is the case, the system will not boot as the hardware is now different. You will have to run a "Repair" of XP with the drive in your cousin`s machine. How to Repair XP. 1.Boot the computer from your Windows XP CD. 2.When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen press [Enter] to start the Windows Setup. Note: Do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", you Do Not want to load Recovery Console. 3.Accept the Licence Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press [R] to start the repair. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. 5.Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will then continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact. http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm Scroll way down page to Windows Installation CD - Repair Current Installation . |
