XP Hangs on startup, but still boots

Hello,

I recently upgraded my memory by swapping out one of two 256MB DDR RAM sticks with a 1GB RAM stick. I did a test drive with a seperate Linux OS and it worked without fail.

However, after installing Windows XP Pro, the progress bar at the boot screen freezes, and my computer is frozen so bad that I can't even turn off Num Lock.

Computer Info:
HP Pavilion a245c
1.2GB RAM (128MB for int. Graphics)
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.0Ghz
Both RAM are 333Mhz (PC2700)

Thank you,

Hello oppdis

Look up your documentation for the maximum amount of memory you can install. Also check the maximum for each slot.

I had a look around and I think it might be

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 512MB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.

Slot 1: 1GB
Slot 2: 256MB

Yep, returning to the stock memory did the trick. Windows doesn't hang.

I guess I'll return the 1GB for 2 512MB sticks, seeing as that's what my mobo supports. Thanks again for the help!
