Sound malfunction on windows XP

Hello.
My sound has become distorted and fiddling with the volume control panel doesn't help. I have a Realtek AC'94 Sound chip. My speakers are built into the monitor. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Re: Sound malfunction on windows XP

Can you describe the distortion so I can figure out what is going wrong?

"The Sound of anything is comparable to alvin and the chipmunks." Says my friend. Basicly it sounds like the computer was in a heleim bar.

Re: Sound malfunction on windows XP

1.)Try changing the hardware acceleration settings.

2.)Obtain updated audio drivers.

It could also be that some joker set your pitch bender in your Realtek control panel all the way up?

Who else has access to this computer?

Re: Sound malfunction on windows XP

Thanks Af3, you were exactly right. It is the family computer and some of the family had a "small" party while the rest of us were gone

Wink Re: Sound malfunction on windows XP

You should get your hands on something called poledit. Windows 2000/XP has a built-in policy editor, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to disable specific control panels with it.

It is my understanding that the policy editor for Windows 98 works fine (poledit.exe) on Windows 2000/XP and you can disable the Realtek AC97' control panel to prevent this little joke from being played on you in the future...

Oh wait, I found some for you:
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows XP SP2
Windows 2003
