"No Signal" after starting computer

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion 542x which is about 7 years old now, and I just recently reinstalled XP in March. All the hardware is the same since when it was purchased and everything has been working fun until about a month ago. The computer starts out fine and video is displayed on the monitor, but after awhile the monitor displays "No Signal" and goes on standby. The time that it takes for this to happen ranges from a few seconds after I start the computer to a few minutes. Also, I hear a faint clicking noise right before this happens. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue or could anyone point me in the right direction to find a solution.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Re: "No Signal" after starting computer

Sounds to me like a hardware problem, probably in the connection between your monitor and the rest of the PC

Re: "No Signal" after starting computer

Welcome to TSF....

One thing you have to do after any sort of installation of windows is install chipset etc follow below:
Since windows was re-installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the system recovery disk set for the computer if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or if you do not have a recovery disk set the drivers can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked.

Re: "No Signal" after starting computer

Thanks for the speedy replies.

After reinstalling XP I installed the drivers on hp.com that corresponded to the computer, and everything was working fine for awhile. Sorry I didn't include that in my original post. I did not, however, update the bios. Could this possibly cause the problem?

Thanks,
Tim
