InstallShield Setup wont run under WinXP SP2
Hi guys,
Recently I installed SP2 on my WinXP machine, only to find out that I cannot install my scanner drivers. When I click on the Setup file (it is a real setup, not self-extracting archive), nothing happens. Scanner brand is Canon, model - CanoScan N640P. I have tried both original drivers (3.8.0) and the newest ones available at the Canon site (3.8.2). Same result - nothing happens. My e-mail to Canon was not answered (great service, what can I say!). There was nothing on the issue at both Canon and Microsoft sites. My desperate search over the net led me to believe that the problem is with the installshield wizard/machine of WinXP SP2 or its components. Specifically, setups created with InstallShield version 5 or less will not run under WinXP SP2 for some reason. I tried to confirm that by trying to install some older programs that I have. These three proggies: Adobe Acrobat Capture 3 Adobe Streamline 4 Adobe Dimenshions 3 all had setups created with InstallShield version 5 or less, and none of them wanted to run. Please advise me what can be done to resolve the problem, because I need that scanner installed badly. Thank you very much in advance. |

Is setup.exe running? I would uninstall/system restore SP2. Also try this,

No, setup.exe does not want to run at all, that is the problem. As for system restore, I have wiped it out with XPLite (along with other crap such as security center, mesenger and the rest of the MS nonsence).
