Red Faced Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

I have a Acer Desktop and i recently re-installed Windows XP on my computer. Everything works perfectly fine except for the sounds

I have installed the RealTek audio driver, but on restart gets an error messge " Error Loading cmicnfg.cpl " and "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

Please advice on any similar encounters and suggest any useful tips..

Thanks Jac:

Re: Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

Welcome to TSF....

Since windows was re-installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the system recovery disk set for the computer if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or if you do not have a recovery disk set the drivers can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked.

kumarlokesh It is not a good idea to leave your own personal email address on the open forum for any reason, If you want to contact the member use the email or PM thru the site. Posting your email address is going to leave you wide open for a lot of spam and also is against the forum rules. Could you please remove the email address?

Nobody knows for sure if a fix will do the trick what has to be done is do what is posted. If it fixes it then you are ahead if it does not then you are one step closer to getting it fixed.

Re: Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

kumarlokesh -

ComboFix is not a tool which should be used unless under the supervision of a trained helper. It should also not be suggested for others to use unless one is trained in it's use.

Do NOT suggest it's use here again, please.

There is nothing in the HijackThis log to indicate the need for ComboFix, nor any active infection at all that I can see from that log.

jac.bb4fun -

HijackThis logs should not be posted in this section of the forum except in rare circumstances when requested by a Staff member.

Re: Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

Did you install the correct motherboard drivers?
I take it your motherboard is ACER as well as the make of your PC. In any case, there should be a series of numbers on your motherborad, possibly a letter or two and some numbers. EG: KV750.

Search the ACER website for the number on YOUR motherboard, NOT the example number. This sound help you find the correct and most recent drivers for all your motherboard utilities.

Another option is to check in BIOS as to whether your OnBoard Sound chip has been Enabled. Do you know what to do within BIOS? If not, please say so as fiddling around inside there could caused a lot more problems.

Re: Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

i found the model number for the computer and it is T135 Acer, and i did install the driver from the Acer website. But at first i installed some driver that i found of the internet, and i think that is what caused the problem.

Is there a way that i could uninstall all the drivers for sound and install from start,

Yes u can go to Device Manager, right click on the Sound driver and click "Uninstall"

Re: Windows XP no sound.. Plzz help..!!

but when i do that and try re-installing the driver from Acer.com, and after restarting , the sound works for first couple of seconds and then i get a pop-up saying

" Error Loading cmicnfg.cpl " and

End program pop-up saying
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

once i click OK. to both these errors and then i go to COntrol Panel - sounds and device, there is no Device found.
