Issues with MP3/M4A playback...
Hello all,
The primary app I use for media playback is jetAudio. I have always been pleased with it's performance, but recently it has begun to act strangely. ================================== Issue: If any MP3 is loaded after any M4A, jetAudio will play the MP3 at half speed or less. Switching from MP3 to M4A files/playlists exhibits no problem, but the reverse consistently causes the slowed down playback. If an MP3 file/playlist is loaded before any M4A has been loaded it will play normally, but any MP3 played after M4A will be half speed. Troubleshooting: The only way to get normal MP3 functionality back is to restart jetAudio and not play any M4A's. I tried a fresh install of jetAudio, but the issue remains. I have searched for solutions to this problem, but it seems to be rare. Possible Causes: This started happening very recently, and seemed to show up shortly after I edited some tags with AudioShell. (I might have done a registry "cleanup" with CCleaner around that time too) XP Home SP2 jetAudio version: 7.1.1.3101 AudioShell version: 1.3.5 ( http://www.download.com/AudioShell/3000-2141_4-10524760.html?tag=lst-7&cdlPid=10637873) This is a quite serious issue for me as it severely hinders uninterrupted music playback, which is a must in my opinion. I submitted a ticket to COWON support, but their response was "our devs will look at this". I am not yet ready to give up on jetAudio, so I am open to any suggestions on fixes for this. Thanks for your help! ================================== Secondary issue: jetAudio no longer recognizes info tags for AAC(M4A) files, as it had done in the past. This problem showed up after I edited about half of my music collection with AudioShell (nothing major, just genre/year/basic cleanup). I checked the tags using several other programs and they are full and correct, but jetAudio only sees the file name. This isn't as important as the playback problems, but it is still quite disappointing. ================================== If this is the wrong place for these help requests, I apologize. I couldn't find an app or media section. Repairing functionality of these issues is quite important to me, but I am having a hard time finding the information. Thanks again! KCW |

Re: Issues with MP3/M4A playback...
The half-speed playback issue is fixed! I tried many things, including new codecs, but couldn't find the problem. I realized it had to be an app somewhere, so uninstalled Quicktime, and voila, no more M4A/MP3 switching issues. (it also fixed the irregular time values being displayed on AAC files)
It did not however fix the tag problem I am having with AAC/M4A in jetAudio. So if anyone has any ideas on what might be the cause of that, I am open to suggestions. The tags are all full and correct on the drive and in other programs, but jetAudio doesn't recognize them. I have tried editing sample tags in several programs (including jetAudio, which displayed them as blank before I added info) but when the files are loaded, there is still no information displayed aside from the filename. I have a feeling that it is something simple, but I just can't figure it out. Whoever helps me fix it gets a treat! |

Re: Issues with MP3/M4A playback...
I would use K-LITE codecs ,and see if that makes adifference.

NO NEED !
I HAVE THE SOLUTION, BUDDY !!! Fist, you don't have to uninstall your Quicktime cause you can use both in the same time , especially when you have iTunes that uses Quicktime to manage your iPod device. So the solution : Go to Preference > Click on Advanced > Choose Player > Click on DirectShow Player > Click on Config Then, Go to Advanced > unmark the box .m4a and click on OK It should work ![]() I think the conflict is solved. If you play other files, just unmarked all ! |

Re: Issues with MP3/M4A playback...
Thanks kookao. I do suppose a better alternative to living without Quicktime is to just bypass it.
I know it's been a few months, but still haven't found a solution to the m4a tag problem. Would be eternally grateful if someone can point me in the direction of an answer. |

Re: Issues with MP3/M4A playback...
Quote:
My advice is : 1) Find iTunes, JetAudio and K-Lite codec install files 2) Uninstall all of them 3) Reinstall itunes (with quicktime) first, then JetAudio : to set the priority of the player 4) Finish the installation with K-lite codec pack 5) Reboot After, check the issue. If half speed happens, fix it with my trick. It's a long way to do it but, you know, this issue is not more than a conflict between softwares. Do you have tag in WMP ? Maybe you can also repair Windows Media Player if the tags are not showing there. Let me know. |
