IE6 on XP downloading issue
Hello everyone,
I am using IE6 and XP SP2, to develop a web application using Java. I have written a download feature that allows a user to download an email (.MSG) file from a database. When the user clicks my download link, then clicks "Save" (not open), and saves the file, he/she can open it just fine. BUT, when the user clicks "Open", I get the following error from outlook: --------------------------- Microsoft Office Outlook --------------------------- Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Can't open file: D:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Temporar.... The file may not exist, you may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another program. Right-click the folder that contains the file, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder. I am logged on as the local admin, so permissions should not be the issue here. So, I changed the temporary internet files dir to d:\temporary internet files\ and tried again, and the same error occurred, but I could see more of the path that outlook was complaining about: D:\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XOBE5928\email.MSG Is the problem here that outlook simply cannot see "Content.IE5"? And therefor cannot open the email? This issue does not happen on Firefox, and we do not have the option of moving to IE7. How can I tell IE6 to download files to a temp folder that other apps can see? (like I said, when I moved the temp internet files to another dir, it still puts it in the weird Content.IE5 folder)... Also, just a side note, why is it Content.IE5 shouldn't it be 6? |

Re: IE6 on XP downloading issue
Ok, small update:
after visiting this site: http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windo...ontentIE5.html I saw that there is a registry setting that tells IE to download all temp files to that Content.IE5 dir. If I change this (which I am slightly hesitant to do) does anyone see any possible issues? Thanks Mark |
