Hello everyone, i am new to this forum and i will use this forum as my last resort to help me since i have no idea what to try next.
The problem is that sometimes when i turn on my computer as soon as it loads up the window it freezes or resets. This also happens when i leave the computer on for around 1 or 2 hours. That is not even the start of my problem, my computer randomly chooses a time when to freeze, reset or shutdown and this has been a pain especially when i am playing a game called "runescape". I spend some time in a minigame called "bounty hunter" which consists of finding people and killing them, but the problem is that while i am killing someone the computer freezes and i end up dead losing my stuff just like that. Will someone please help me out here? i will try to provide any information you seek just i hope that my computer can be perfect without any problems :(. How come people have been viewing but are not adding any helpful comments i am suffering very much here i have tried so many things to try and fix this problem. I have ran many anti viruses, spyware removal software, ccleaner, registry cleaners. Please help me i really need to know how to fix this. Last edited by dai : 07-17-2008 at 07:41 PM. |

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
Welcome to TSF....
Patience is a virtue and people will view and not try to help especially if they are not registered here at TSF and there are plenty of them, they also might be a bit scared to try for fear of not having a correct answer. Your problem might be caused by overheating of the processor please run the speedfan and report the findings back: SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures http://www.almico.com/speedfan432.exe

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
Check the power supply connections too. In particular the 4pin square plug that goes somewhere in the middle of the motherboard... (wow, I'm like, so technical!!)
I've had quite a few problems with my aforementioned "Friend's Computer". One of these was the case, constantly freezing or rebooting. Turned out the 4pin plug has burned out somehow. Replaced with a spare PSU and everything was fine... Until the hard drive played up. But that's a different topic. |

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
I would deffinately check the temperatures of the computer to make sure it isn't overheating. U say it starts to happen more when u are playing ur game, that puts stress on the CPU. Are u hearing the fans run louder when playing ur video game?
All this would help. Let us know ur computer temps so we may be able to help u. |

Okay thank you for finally answering, now i have downloaded the "SpeedFan" and it has shown me many temperatures: Temp1: -55C ,Temp2: 28C ,Temp3:-1C ,HD0: 29C, Core0: 45C, Core1: 47C.
It says there are four fans, but only Fan1 is running at 874 RPM. Also these temperatures i have provided are before i am playing the video game would you like me to show the temperatures once the game is playing? Oberon2000 how do i know if that "4pin square plug" has burned out? Crespo PC Serv, the fans do not get louder when i am playing the game, i have provided the temperatures of my system further up. Dai here are my specifications: video card: Radeon x1650 Series, Don't know what you mean by cpu and motherboard, ram: 1.0 GB, What do you mean by power supply, brand of what?, wattage of what? and no error messages. I am playing the game and the temperatures show something very interesting: Fan1 is running at 1162 RPM, Temp1 still -55C, Temp2 is 36C, Temp3 is still -1C, HD0 is 33C but the real thing i am concerned about is Core0 and Core1, they are Core 0 at 53 C, and Core1 at 55C they both have a fire symbol on the left of them. Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
well basically.. if you have 2 cores (as u mentioned core 0 and core 1) it means you have a dual core processor (your cpu) .. you can check it by right clicking my computer and go to properties.. it is mention there under "computer:"
your power supply is a big cube that you connect your cable to to and give power to your computer.. open your computer case and look for any brands there and the Watts e.g. 400W..450W..600W and etc... post it back here for continuous guidance and suggestions.. :) EDIT: oh btw... for temps checker, using HWMonitor is also great as it tells the max temp of your computer in one side, the min and current temps, so that you can check the highest temps your computer experiencing.. you can download it here --> http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php Last edited by d_animality : 07-08-2008 at 12:48 AM. |

thank you d animality, i have used your recommended software "HWMonitor" and it showed when i am playing the game and not playing the game the temperature is below the maximum it can go through, meaning it is not a temperature problem.
But i have found out something very puzzling, i have opened the case of my motherboard and it has been fine all day, just the fan has been making a very scary sound like it is hitting something the sound goes like "tik tik tiktiktiktik tik tik" i will try to get the wattage from inside the case. Power supply: 500 W, the fan inside: 1.56 W, the two fans on the opposite side of the case both have 1.56 W also. Last edited by dai : 07-17-2008 at 07:42 PM. |

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
check a wire is not touching a fan blade
what brand is the psu and where are your specs even if the 500 is a quality brand it would most likely be underpowered for todays computers

Power Supply brand is ASTRO Model: 3330U
Specifications: Intel(R) Core (TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz 1.40 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM guys can you please give me some links to free: Registry Scanners, Virus scanners and anything else which could fix my problem. The ones that are promoted don't do good jobs i tried one which had to be registered for and it did nothing for me. I think it might also help if i tell you that now i have turned off the auto reset option, and instead it shows the "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) i just got a BSOD saying IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and then the Stop error STOP: 0x000000F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Last edited by dai : 07-17-2008 at 07:43 PM. |

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
memtest is used to check if u have a bad ram.. download from the link dai given, burn it to cd (which is good for long-term uses, just incase you need to run memstest again for future) and boot from it, if you have more than 1 stick of ram, u may have to test each stick to check if theres something wrong with ur RAM, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL always appear on me before when i do overclocking (well i assume you dont do overclocking so you may scratch this
) and also hardware problems, correct me if im wrong and yeah.. try the memtest to check for errors on ur PC RAM, run it for about 2hours...Good Luck! ![]() |

Re: Computer Freezes, Resets and Shuts down
yea... u can also do what dai suggested, using diskette or pendrive can also do cause my fren try that, just make sure u boot from the specific device u use, what is mean by checking each ram is .. if u hve two sticks of ram (1st and 2nd), you have to take out 1st stick and perform the memtest on the 2nd stick, when it is run for 2 hours and have no errors found (it will say something like.."pass the test and press to exit (cant remember what it says but sounds something like that hehe)" after that take back the 1st stick that u just take out and put it back in your system and remove the 2nd stick which have been tested and passed (hopefully
) and run the memtest again on your 1st stick for 2 hours... if theres a problem, something will show up..Good luck on ur test ![]() Last edited by d_animality : 07-14-2008 at 03:29 AM. |
