I'm not sure if I have a problem or not. I have AOL 9.0SE, and use the free McAfee virus protection they provide. In the sign-in window it indicates (in red print!) that the firewall is "not detected." However, when going into the Security Center, it tells me that my computer is fully protected, that all protection features, INCLUDING the firewall, is enabled and working. I don't understand the discrepancy, or what, if anything, I need to do about it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: firewall "not detected" on sign in to AOL
To really verify you have the Win Firewall enabled, use the Windows Firewall icon in Control Panel. It may be easier to find if you switch to the Classic View for Control Panel.
Also, be aware that some AntiVirus utilities, over-ride the Windows Firewall, since they have their own. I know my Norton AntiVirus 2008 does this, but don't know if McAfee does the same. You should actually be checking with AOL Support.

Re: firewall "not detected" on sign in to AOL
i have Norton Security 2009 and know that the Norton firewall and antivirus is working, however the AOL9 sign on page says they have not been detected. Also, after running Aol9 computer check up programme it says it can't detect a firewall or antivirus on the computer. Windows firewall is turned off since it would conflict with Norton, i suspect the problem is with Aol as it cannot detect the Windows Firewall.
Operating system Windows XP Home. Any comments from uses having the same problem would be appreciated. peterloc |
