explorer.exe continually closes/freezes

I got this error stating "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close," continually after getting this other error on my desktop that said my Active Destop was closed. I was able to restore my active desktop, but desktop bar itself doesn't work. It's really annoying because I can't access the Start menu, see the time, and switch programs. I have to use Alt + Tab, and the Task Manager. I really need my desktop bar back, please help~!
Thanks in advance, Kayuri

Re: explorer.exe continually closes/freezes

[Not a bump] Just now, I tried re-running explorer.exe, and now it just keeps closing itself, and then restarting itself. About every other second, its really making me go insane... Please help~

Re: explorer.exe continually closes/freezes

Hi,

Did you install any new programs before all this happened?

What exactly happened before this problem started?

Do you have your xp cd there?

Re: explorer.exe continually closes/freezes

Well... there is a spyware/malware issue on my computer right now, which caused Windows to shut off my active desktop, which I was able to restore. And right before - I re-installed Windows XP to repair stuff; I had the blue screen of doom stating that the Windows Logon process had some error, and caused a fatal system error. (I repaired it with the help of Dell's support team, but after that, this started happening T_T) And yes, I still have my XP Installation CD...
[I've already started another thread in HJT forum which also may have caused this : here.]

Re: explorer.exe continually closes/freezes

Looking at your log, I see multiple infections. Those are probably causing your explorer issue.

I suggest you allow the security team to clean your machine first then come back here when the problem still persists.
