[SOLVED] Service Pack 3 crashing

I have just installed Service Pack 3 for xp home addition and upon restarting it flashes a blue screen, not long enough to get any details from it, and then automatically restarts.

I can start windows in safe mode, but not normally and I cannot use "Use Last Known Configuration."

I have read that I could use the install disk's "Repair" function, but I have misplaced it and would like to not have to search for days just to get my computer back.

If anybody knows what my problem is or how to resolve it without an install disk, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Re: Service Pack 3 crashing

Welcome to TSF....

Well do not wand to hurt your feelings but you better start searching because you might just need the recovery disks or call the manufacturer of the computer and order a new set of them.

One thing you can try is to go to add/remove programs in safe mode and find service pack 3 and you might have to put a tick mark in show updates at the top but if you can find it then remove it. Hopefully this will restore the computer. If this does not work then try system restore to a day before the install of SP3.

No matter what you do you have to get the recovery disk set.

Re: Service Pack 3 crashing

Zacory Are you using a ASUS A8N32 range Motherboard?

I am personally and after d/l XP SP3 on 12/05/08 and being treated the blue screen of death I have spent most of my day trying to solve the problem. In the end i gave up and reinstalled XPSP2...resulting in many of my documents going missing. However after researching it seems the reboot cycle problem is linked to ASUS Motherboard.

You would have thought MS testers would have spotted this.

My advice is backup before installing SP3 or wait a month or so.

Re: Service Pack 3 crashing

I'm not sure what motherboard I have. I was using everest and it says name unknown, but it gave me the ID of C51-MCP51-A8N-LA-00.

Anyways, I just uninstalled SP3 and everything seems to be running fine now. I'm just canceling the automatic update for SP3 in the future. Not the best of fixes, but it works well enough.
