[SOLVED] 3B Registry Repair Pro and spybot search & destroy
I purchased 3B Software's Registry Repair Pro. I installed it on my computer. As my usual practice I scanned with Spy-bot Search and Destroy the next day and was greeted with the message that this 3B software is a known potential threat. Is it true ? Even with the purchased licensed version ?
I have uninstalled the software - but it did work nicely by getting rid of junk from my Window's registry and compacting it. Please help. |

Re: 3B Registry Repair Pro and spybot search & destroy
Thanks to all of you for the help. I think I did the right thing by uninstalling "Registry Repair Pro" from 3B.
In fact after I purchased and installed Webroot Spy-sweeper, the software prevents me from doing any thing related to 3B Software !! My McAfee site adviser also does the same thing, so there must be some thing very wrong about this company. Thanks again - Ranabir Ghosh

The theory behind a Registry Cleaner is that your registry will eventually get bloated with old, out of date, or erroneous entries.
A registry that's BLOATED will impact system performance since the registry is one thing that must load into RAM memory during the boot up process. For Instance: Can you imagine what size your phone book would be, if the phone company did not remove old and out of date entries, like for people who have died, moved away or changed their phone number? After just a few years, you'd need a fork lift to even move it. Thank God and Ma-Bell that we get a new and revised phone book every year. I still put my lifting belt on, before picking mine up. ![]() ![]() After removing (DE-Installing) Office 2007, one day, I ran my own favorite registry cleaner (Easy Cleaner) and then ran my registry compression program, NTREGOPT, and reduced the size of my registry by about 30 megabytes. I understand those who have had bad experiences with so-called Registry Cleaners and are reluctant to advise anyone else to use one. Many registry cleaners range from redundant (useless) to right down destructive, and yes many are Trojans. Been there done that, and yes I've even paid good money in years past for registry cleaners that really wet the bed. Spybot can and will flag some programs as BAD that really are NOT bad at all but can alter the registry in their normal operation. My own install of Spybot S&D (1.5.2rc1) flagged my "Spyware Hunter" program as bad. (I've used "Spyware Hunter" to clean up PC's so badly infected that it would seem that a complete FORMAT would be the only fix.) It was a very simple thing to go into "Ignore Products" and put that program on the "Ignore" list. You must be running Spybot in "Advanced" mode to make such changes. Many people NEVER go through the SETUP procedure with Spybot and then complain that it doesn't work properly. ![]() Spybot S&D is a pretty technical program and DOES require proper setup for it to ever run correctly. ![]() So much so, that I printed up a full page of setup instructions for it and posted it on my website. ![]() Anyway, you'll probably be just as well off NOT having that registry cleaner. It's one I've never heard of, so I can't comment on its usefulness, effectiveness or safeness. "Yes Regis, that's my final answer!" Cheers Mates! The Shadow

Re: [SOLVED] 3B Registry Repair Pro and spybot search & destroy
Thanks Shadow,
that was really a long and well thought answer. Well as for me, I am ancient (my year of birth is displayed) but unlike other ancients I am working with computers right form 1966 !! There was no display, no keyboard no high level language. Those were huge monsters with patch chords 8-bit word size, absurdly low memory (using valve modules for each bit !!) producing unthinkable amount of heat. Then I was graduated to PC's working on DOS and then workstations working on Unix and Berkley. Being a mechanical design engineer had to use a lot of finite element analysis and CAD software. Also had to write own programs in C and Fortran - no graphic interface. In the process when I started to use Windows based PC's I did not have enough organic memory empty in my brain and didn't have the time to go in depth into the labyrinths of Windows registry. I welcome suggestions regarding purchase of a dependable registry cleaner + compactor. I understand the importance of keeping it clean. Thanks and regards - Ranabir

Hee Hee
![]() ![]() Actually, I'm one year older and started my professional life in 1964 at NCR. I exceeded in electronics skills and was trained on every computer they made till I left in 1973. I went from tube type computers, to all transistor models to the first all Integrated Circuit computer. I built my first IBM XT Clone in ~1983 and from there it's all just history. From day one, I've been trying to get every bit of performance possible, out of every computer I've owned, built or worked on. I share that expertise with all my computer customers. In most cases, I can improve a systems performance by 100%+. Windows is just such a dog, it doesn't allow the hardware to run at anywhere near its true potential. Run a DOS program on the computer and you'll see performance that you never thought possible. ![]() I'm glad the problem that prompted this thread has been dealt with. ![]() Cheers Mates! The Shadow
