can't find my recent documents

hi! i'm quite new here.

i have some problem about my recent documents folder. i can't find the folder in C:\Documents and Settings\(my username). i'm also an admin of the computer, so i looked in admin docs and settings, there is a recent doc folder but it's nothing there.

however, i can see the recently used applications in the my recent documents menu from the start button.

any idea on how to get the recent documents folder on my username back?

thank you so much.

Re: can't find my recent documents

It is a hidden folder in C:\Documents and Settings\(my username). Go to folder options>and enable "show hidden files and folders"

Hi bergkamp!!

Did you disable the Hide protected system operating files and folders on the Folder Options as well?

Re: can't find my recent documents

Oh, thank you bhahar84. I checked that option out, and it works now.
But my computer would run fine right since it has (Recommended) after the option?

Re: can't find my recent documents

Yup, it should go like Hide protected system operating files and folders (Recommended), right?

If you already finish copying/reviewing all the files there, you can try to set the settings back to default (hide it back). Or else, you might could see all the system protected files, which you might deleted accidentally

Re: can't find my recent documents

I see. So it should be fine unless I mess up with those files.
One more question, if that so, every computer is set unchecked for that option so that the recent documents can be seen?

thank you very much :)

Actually, the default is checked, which means the file is hidden. Only the recent documents will shown on the menu, but the real locations will be hidden to prevent any mistakes by user

Usually, we will unchecked the settings, if we want to find some hidden files or maybe edit some system files. But, it is not recommended if you're not familiar with it though

Anymore questions regarding this?

Re: can't find my recent documents

If you want to view the files with Hide protected system operating files and folders (Recommended) checked.

do this:

click Start => Run copy and paste the below command into the run box:

%userprofile%\recent

Press Ok

you should see the files, unless the files inside the recent folder are hidden.
