Re: Acer - Aspire Q6600 Desktop Vista to XP Pro

Hello again desiking911 !

Here are the complete specs for that Acer Aspire M5630 :
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...ords=&areaid=7
(Q6600 is the processor code, not the model)

About replacing Vista by XP the problem will be the same than with your laptop. If there are no XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's website you may have a very hard time finding them.

First thing when you get a computer with an OEM version of Vista is to make sure you have the recovery disks. They'll be your only way to reinstall Vista later if something fails, and eventually we'll all have to use Vista anyway. If there are no CD's coming with the computer then you can create them (follow this guide) or order them from Acer.

Then download all the XP drivers for your hardware and save them to some CD or to an external drive :
http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdr...n/drivers.html
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...ire_m5630.html

Drivers for XP seem to exist for that model but if some drivers are missing then look at the specs to find the component's manufacturer and go to their websites for the proper drivers.

That computer uses a SATA hard drive. There are no sata drivers on Acer's website which may mean the controller will be recognized by Windows right away, but in case the windows installation can't find your hard drive then create the RAID/SATA drivers floppy and insert it when prompted to press F6 to load the SCSI/RAID drivers.

Use an XP SP2 CD to install XP, if you haven't got one then use this guide to create a slipstreamed CD with SP2 : http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...slipstream.asp

Re: Acer - Aspire Q6600 Desktop Vista to XP Pro

Hello. I just added a second SATA2 Drive to my Acer AM5630. I added Windows MCE 2005. I had to cheat to install it. First I put in a PCI Lan card so I could get on the internet. I installed Windows MCE 2005 & hooked it up to the internet. It was no problem with the Motherboard drivers - WindowsXP already supports this motherboard except for the built in sound & LAN. I registered my copy of Windows MCE & went to Windows update to get the LAN Drivers. It saw the RealTek LAN & I installed the drivers. I removed the LAN card & started using the motherboard NIC. I next installed a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 because I have yet to get the onboard sound to work. The Acer Website does not seem to list the correct hardware for this machine. WindowsXP is very boring next to Vista but I like my computer to be boring yet functional. I am happy with the results. I now only have to figure out how to hook the original HardDrive back so that I can use both of them. I had to use the SATA hookups from the Initial Vista Drive because I did not have a spare.

Re: Acer - Aspire Q6600 Desktop Vista to XP Pro

Just a note. The Acer site has the wrong information for this computer. The drivers with the exception of the ATI Video drivers are wrong.
