Computer is acting weird....

Hey guys,

O.k. I have a dell inspiron 5100 (laptop). A while ago, I spilled a decent amount of water on the keyboard. Ever since then it never acted the same. The reason I am posting in the windows XP forum is because maybe it just dried up and is fine when the real problem lies in the OS.

Here are the problems.

1). Can drag and drop once or twice but then stops.
2). Have to hold control to drag and drop sometimes.
3). Right click doesn't work sometimes, it basically comes up and vanishes unless I hold ctrl (but not all the time).
4). WHen i turn the computer on, sometimes it just starts beeping and I ahve to restart.
5). Computer runs slow.....

Re: Computer is acting weird....

Are you using the mouse pad on the laptop?
If so then I would definitely say there is water damage.

Yes, I am using the mousepad on the laptop. How can I change it then, by myself because it costs 100 from dell. That is ridiculous.

Re: Computer is acting weird....

More Update on this situation. I disabled the mousepad from the control pad. And used a USB mouse. The right click now works and so on....but I cannot drag and drop. It clicks on the file but you can't drag it. Os problem? Keyboard Problem?

Re: Computer is acting weird....

Hi Problemwithcom,

First, I would try the following:

Go to Start > Run and type: sfc /scannow and hit enter.
Allow the scan to complete and have your Windows XP CD ready.

If the problem continues, then I would try and rule out viruses. The no drag and drop is a symptom of the Blaster worm.

Take a read here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826955

I'd also run some virus checkers on line, such as Panda Software.

However, water damage could still be the primary cause of this problem. You don't know what could have happened inside the laptop???
