Hi,
I recently downloaded Knoppix. I wanted to be able to start if from a CD, and when I tried to restart with the CD in to boot up from it, it wouldn't work. A friend told me I had to set up the BIOS right or something? Coulds someone point me to a good tutorial, or explain to me how to do it? Thanks. ![]() |

When you put the CD in with Windows running, does a webpage pop up that says "Knoppix Info"? If not, you probably burned the CD incorrectly...
With what program did you burn the CD? If the web page does come up, then you have no problem other than to make sure that CD-Rom comes before Hard drive in the BIOS for the order of drives to search for bootable media. Usually, this option is under a field called "Boot", or something similar. |

Yes, I when I put in the CD of Knoppix, a website did come up. But I don't know how to make the CD-rom come before the Hard drive in the BIOS. I tried googling it, but it just gave me pages about how to partition and format a hard disk, installing a second hard drive, etc.

Getting into the BIOS settings varies from bios version to bios version. Usually, before the operating system loads, you'll see a message "Press [key] to enter setup". This key will bring you into the BIOS settings. Changing the boot order does vary slightly from band to brand, but generally it's a list that looks like "Floppy disk, CD-Rom, Hard drive", etc. Apparently with yours, the hard disk comes before the CD-Rom, so you'll want to change it so that the hard drive comes after CD-Rom. If you have a manual for your motherboard, or just the general manual for the computer if it's from a manufacturer- the procedure should be in either of those.
