WinZip, will not uninstall.

I wish to uninstall WinZip Version 11.1. When I try to do so the following error message appears:

Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\WinZip\DefaultIcon.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this error message?

I use Windows XP.

I also have WinRar installed and wish to set this to my default compression software. Currently, WinZip is set to the default compression software.

Thank you in advance,

Re: WinZip, will not uninstall.

Hi and welcome to TSF.
It's possible you may have a corrupt registry key. Try reinstalling Winzip and then uninstalling again. In the meantime, to make WinRar your default, open WinRar and select Options>Settings>Integration and select All.

Re: WinZip, will not uninstall.

Thank you very much for your reply.

When I attempt to reinstall WinZip, the same error message appears.
Thanks for the hint on how to reset WinRar to the default compressor,

Re: WinZip, will not uninstall.

I have also noticed that my internet connection is running much slower ever since downloading and installing WinZip...

Re: WinZip, will not uninstall.

The copy of Winzip was downloaded through www.download.com (http://www.download.com/3000-2250-10003164.html)

There shouldn't be any problems with www.download.com

Re: WinZip, will not uninstall.

Thanks for your reply nimd4, but as the last post was over a year ago, I think we can assume the OP is no longer interested.
