Multiple problems, can't fix any of them
Hi, I seem to have a serious problem with my computer
It's running windows xp sp2 and all these problems literally appeared overnight: - When I log in, it seems to lag at the logging in screen, and after that it shows my desktop background with nothing on it for another good five minutes - there is no task bar when i start it up, and it wont seem to let me drag it up, the only way ive gotten it to appear is to turn on AOL deskbar (i can turn it off after it appears and it'll stay) -open windows wont appear on the taskbar for that matter either, they appear as boxes above the taskbar -it won't let me drag items or even send them anywhere (flash drive etc.) -it won't play any sound, i have a fairly new sound card and it even acknowledges its there, but still won't play anything -windows media player won't boot up; stating "Can't preform operation, low memory" -can't copy, can't paste - backgrounds won't appear on websites theres probaly more, but I can't think of any off the top of my head Like i said they literally appeared over night, and i've tried almost everything to get rid of them including: system restore(says it can't help my computer and to restart and try again, but still appears), scanning for viruses(with Nod32), reinstalling windows(the install button does'nt seem to do anything), and many more. I would greatly appreciate any help, as you guys are my last hope short of sending it in for repair... |

Re: Multiple problems, can't fix any of them
You might want to stop over at the HijackThis Forum and post a HJT log. This wreaks of malware but it could be other things. See if they give you a clean bill of health and if they do then it may be caused by other things.
Also, I don't recommend that if you attempt to re-install Windows you do it from inside Windows. Things are smoother if you boot from the XP CD, Format and Erace the Hard Drive and start fresh. Like I said, though, have them check out your HJT log and see if that turns up anything. BMR777

Re: Multiple problems, can't fix any of them
Sounds like major Spyware to me but for the starting up issues, go to START-RUN-and type " msconfig " then go to the STARTUP tab and uncheck everything that isnt microsoft related. Reboot and see if you computer is still having all the issues. If it isnt you might wanna check you Add/Remove program list and remove all programs related to the ones you unchecked in MSCONFIG. Reboot into safe mode and try running Ad-Aware SE. Hope this helps.

Well I'll try the HiJack This forum and see how it goes, thanks. |
