!! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Hi there,
i have a Q concerning a annoying issue in Outlook Express.
Everytime when i try to save a attachment, the save path points to the last
path i stored my files.
I was looking for the entry in the registry and found the key
"Save Attachment Path". Everytime i change the path this key will be overwritten.
How can i get a default path like in Word or Excel etc.?

Thansk for your help!

Christian

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

It sounds like you're going about it in the right manner. Are you sure you've edited the right identity?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{?}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Hi there,
yes i do!! I Have 3 identites and all of them have this entry manualy editet!

I found a progy that lets you edit this key

http://www.mapilab.com/outlook_express/tweaker/

and with this little progy i could proof, that OE always changes that key to the last selected path.
This is annoying for me, because i want to have it permanent on D:\My Documents
no matter which path i have selected bevor the last save.

Any idea?

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

I found an executable "tweak"you can try.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

At Kellly's Korner link above go to line 242 and download / install executable "Set the "Save Attachments" Default in OE ".

Good luck!

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Hi there,
also nothing new under the sun. Tried it out yesterday!
This progy does the same as 1. my manual editing 2. the mapilab progy.

I am looking for a PERMANENT SOLUTION!

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

I tried the executable tweak myself and it works as long as you click the "paper clip" icon and select "Save Attachment".

At OE menu, select View>Layout

In Preview Pane, check "Show Preview Pane" and "Show Preview Pane Header".

Once again, set the default path you want, and from then on...

In the Preview Pane Header, click the "paper clip" icon and select "Save Attachment". It will use your default path.

Yes, but if you change this path, for instance when a different folder is needed just for this single mail, this will also change the registry entry,
and we are back to my initial question!
How to store tha path permanently.

1. Set the save path to certain folder, in my case D:\My Documents
2. Start OE and save attachments in a different folder
3. Close OE
4. Restart OE and the save path has changed BUT i want to have it pointing to D:\My Documents

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Okay. Apparently this was a known bug in Outlook Express. Read about it at Microsoft's web site.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331923

Here's a link to the patch...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...ng=en#Overview

Hope THIS does the trick.

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Hi schmmo,
i am currently on the latest patch for OE6 (6.00.2900.2180), also the OS is fully patched!
The patch release you pointed me to goes back to 12.13.2004 ))--;;
In the description MS mentioned that the save path was not stored at all, but this is not the problem.
I am looking for a switch or entry within the registry, to LOCK the default path.
Changing save path within OE should NOT CHANGE the default path in other words,
whenever i save a attachement always the default path D:\My Documents should be visible also when i change the save path for a file which place is NOT D:\My Documents.
I think this is just not possible, becuase it is not coded!

But still any help is appreciated!

Christian

Re: !! Save Attachment Path for OE !!

Hi CB,

Unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree with you. I've tried numerous sites, forums, Microsoft, you-name-it, all with no permanent fix.

It's like many free Windows programs, lacking in some important functions. I've used Google's GMail for quite a while and like the perks of online e-mail. GMail has a great spam filter, has POP and SMTP access, and uses none of MY disk space.

Take care
