Slow Computer Shutdown
I have to wait for the shutdown menu to show up when I click
Start>Turn off My "waittokillservice" Is set to 50. I believe this problem was resolved for me a while ago,but the faster shutdown time only lasted for a day. Here is the link to my last post. RESOLVED Slow Shutdown Is there any other way I can make it turn off faster,or fix the slow shutt down menu? Thanks in advance

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
Check in Start>Run>type: services.msc and hit Enter.
Look for "Profile Hive Cleanup" service there. If it's there, it will correctly run itself when you logoff/shutdown. ![]() Is the shutdown still slow? |

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
I see a "user profille hive clean up" its started is "Started" and its on automatic. I've noticed the shutdown is only fast if my computer has been on for a small amount of time. If it has been on for a while the shutdown is slow. Is that suppose to happen? Also am I suppose to see it Cleanup profiles? Cause I haven't seen anything :/

It's a weird situation to resolve. Do you have an XP CD? If you do, put in in the drive, then o to Start>Run>type: sfc /scannow and hit Enter. Agree to any prompts you may get (i.e. Retry). Let it work and finish discreetly. Then shutdown and restart your system. See if it's any better.

![]() Certainly, I won't support the use of that. This means that you have some corrupt system files which need repairing basically. Run it again and click the "More Information" tab each time it asks for the CD, then click Retry. See how many files and which ones it needs to replace. Post the names of the files it specifies back. That's the only method without having a CD right now.

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
When I click "More Information" A windows popup shows up saying
"Windows file Protection" -You have inserted the wrong CD.(ie.,a different Windows product CD than the version installed) -The CD0Rom drive in your system is not functioning. So I assume the only way now is to get a CD :/ |

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
Yes, it'll need a genuine CD to run. If I try it on mine, it gives me the needed file details with More Information.
![]() That's a major step missing there. If you don't have a CD, you can't run a repair install either, which is another major step. Go to Start>Run>type: msconfig and hit Enter. Under the "Startup" tab, list the "Startup Item" name of all that is there. I think you're slow shutdown is service related, but I can't be sure - do you have many games or online services installed? |

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
Under the Startup tab I have the followin;
RTHDCPL realsched fwupdate PDVDServ InCD jusched ituneshelper qttask MsnMsgr googletoolbarnotifier All of these are checked. And the only online game I have installed is "Maplestory" that is all. For online services I got MSN Messenger and Limewire (Not sure if limewire is online service) Also my computer was never like this,I've reformatted a few times and it was fine,I had some trojans and stuff but my computer is clean now. Just the shutdown is the only problem. |

Have a read of TSF rules:

![]() That said, since this doesn't have anything to do with Limewire, and is a different subject, I'll continue helping. In the same place under Startup, uncheck these items as they are quite unnecessary: RTHDCPL realsched PDVDServ InCD jusched ituneshelper qttask MsnMsgr googletoolbarnotifier Then Apply>OK, don't choose to reboot. I have one question for you: why on Earth do I see no mention of an anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall in your startups? ![]() I hope I won't hear what I think I'll be hearing.

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
Oh about the Anti-spyware and the Anti Virus thing,I uninstalled it before because it took a while to load my desktop, but I guess I really should redownload it :/ I also thought that was the cause of slow shutdown lol..

Re: Slow Computer Shutdown
It's very likely your system is now infected and could easily be hacked and controlled by another. I tried a Windows XP SP2 brand new installation and it only lasted 2 hours before being badly infected.
![]() Have a read and follow this very carefully: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...sting-log.html Like it says, post the logs in the HJT forum it links to towards the end. One of the security analysts will assess your system for any malicious content. Please be patient as the forum is very busy and someone will get round to you as soon as they can. |
