RESOLVED Slow Shutdown

I have a problem with my computer. When I click Start>Turn off computer
It takes a pretty long time loading to the Log off,ShutDown,Restart Menu.
What is the cause of this, and what can I do to speed up the process?

Re: Slow Shutdown

Hi,

There is a registry tweak that can help with this. First, set a system restore point in case anything goes wrong.

For information on using the system restore, scroll down to "Create Restore Points Manually" in this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx

Then, go into the registry. Navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control

In the Control folder, search for a key called "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"

Modify the data so it is less than 1000 (give 50 a try).

Reboot (this time it won't be fast), and after this initial reboot, it should be faster.

Re: Slow Shutdown

Just what you want to call it, like "Before registry change" for example. Any title you will remember.

Re: Slow Shutdown

I don't "think" a screenshot is nescarry anymore because I have lowered it to 50,it was at 2000. And now the shutdown is WAY quicker then before. Thank you very much for helping :) If a screenshot "is" needed please tell me and I will put one up.

Re: Slow Shutdown

Glad you found it. I was requesting the screenshot to help you find the key, but you got it.
