been getting this annoying error latly
I have been getting this annoying error lately and it seems that once it pops up once it wont stop until I restart my computer. I took a screen shot of the message and attached it below.. Can someone tell me whats causing this? It seems to have started right after i got my computer back from geek squad although it might have happened right before..
When i click on Ok its like it restarts the start bar because it disappears for a minute and then comes back and then the error will keep coming.. Thanks! Last edited by nikeman; 04-23-2007 at 12:35 PM. |

Re: been getting this annoying error latly
Noticed on your desktop your AVG virus definition files seem to be out of date, or something is disabled as your AVG icon is "greyed out".
Here's a thread with a similar problem. The solution was AVG AS. http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=677245&page=2 It's a recent thread, maybe it will work for you. |

Re: been getting this annoying error latly
explorer.exe on my computer must be messed up or something because it is causing a lot of errors and they all point to that file! Is there a way to update the file or replace it with a working copy??

Re: been getting this annoying error latly
Well first I'd want to know why the Explorer went bad. Usually, underpower PSU, Heat or Hard Driver errors.
chkdsk will fix the errors, but if it is the PSU or Heat, you will still probably have problems, but anyways run sfc /scannow after chkdsk (both from Start>Run) and see if that fixes it and also if it comes back. And part of me wonders about the connection to AVG AS. I don't like coincidences, and the thread had a connection to AVG AS and surprise! so do you and I don't like coincidences even if I don't understand them. Meaning I'm wondering about a connection between the threads problem and yours, even if AVG AS doesn't fix yours. Maybe a remnant from AVG AS designed to prevent a reinstall ? Alcohol has failed to uninstall completely for me in the past, and it's remnants have caused problems as a result. Perhaps a manual uninstall of AVG AS might fix it ? |

Re: been getting this annoying error latly
i ran the chckdsk thing and it was successful. When I try to run sfc /scannow it asks me to insert the windows Xp Professional disk and retry. I do not have professional, I only have home and i tried putting that disk in and it wouldnt work.. Why is it asking for Professional?
