Trouble Acquiring Network Address
My brother decided to be a jerk and install Zango on my computer the other day. I removed it promptly, but when I restarted my computer it hung at the part of start-up where it initializes my network connections before the start menu or desktop are visible until I ended the explorer process and manually started it again. Once everything started coming up as normal, every application that uses a network connection gave me a socket error and my network connections wouldn't acquire network addresses. I downloaded and ran a winsock fix utility which eliminated the socket errors, but my wired and wireless connections both still hang at acquiring network address. If I go into command prompt to refresh my IP addresses it gives me the error that the RCP server could not be found. I've tried reinstalling my NIC drivers, but it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas? Also nothing has changed with my router and all of the other computers on the network are connecting fine.

Re: Trouble Acquiring Network Address
Try this, go to Administrative Tools, Services, and scroll down and look for two things First, the Remote Procedure Call (rpc)Locator
and Second, Remote Procedure Call (rpc) Now make sure they are both started and on Automatic. see if that helps |

Re: Trouble Acquiring Network Address
Also, I they are already started on Automatic, and it still dont work. Bring up the "Run" window and type in "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" (without the Quotes) then restart your pc and try again, should work ok. But if not go back to "Run" window and type in "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and restart you pc.

Re: Trouble Acquiring Network Address
So far no change. I did however notice that my entire taskbar including the start menu don't respond for about 2 minutes after startup when the workstation service is starting up. I tinkered around with msconfig and there isn't any hangtime if I disable workstation. If I go in to start the service manually it takes a heck of a long time to start. The dependant services start up just fine manually once that workstation finally gets running. One of the dependant services is the RPC locater. Maybe there is a problem with the workstation service causing all the trouble but I don't know how to go about finding out for sure or what to do to fix it if there is a problem there.
