Windows update
I know I'm a newbee at this so maybe somebody can help. I have auto updates turned on but I checked for updates and Windows genuine advantage validation tool (kb892130) was available. Tried to update it and got error code 0x80246008. Looked at all my past updates and they all seem to have failed with same error code. Does this mean all my auto updates have failed?

Re: Windows update
Thank you, followed directions and did get error code 2147024894. Was able to correct and install updates all 57 of them. Process time took aprox 55 min. I still have problems with starting up time, takes 5 to 10 min. to be able to use computer after booting up, I posted it in laptop section. Did not get any responce to the post maybe I worded it wrong. Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Windows update
Sometimes the logo SATELLITE just comes up on the screen and I have to manually shut down. But when it starts up fine and I click on an icon it takes up to 10 min. to open up. I got a reply on my post in the laptop section about the 5 step process that I have to look into. Also I use to use AOL but not any more, I don't want to have anything to do with it anymore. If I go into add remove programs will I get rid of all of it that way? Their messenger and anti spyware and such.

Re: Windows update
Yes you should be able to remove AOL via Add/Remove Programs.
Download and install: HiJackThis Create an uninstall list: * Open HiJackThis * Click on the button " Open the Misc Tools section" * Click on the Box that says "Open Uninstall Manager" * Click on the button "Save list" * Copy and past the List from the notepad file into this thread This will give me a chance to see what is all installed on your system

Re: Windows update
Thats not exactly what I wanted but it will do.
If you look at the 04 entries in your log, those are all running when your computer boots up. That is what is slowing down your system. Some of them you need while others you dont. Spysweeper I know for a fact always slows the system while booting. You also have alot of Toshisba and Intel apps running. Let me look this over and come back and let you know what you can stop from running when the system boots. Be patient with me I am very busy atm

You downloaded it?
![]() Its also known as MSConfig on your system and you already have it installed. Hit Start>Run> msconfig and enter. Then go to the "Startups" tab. That's where you'll need to "uncheck" the boxes to disable all that GG has told you to > Apply > OK.

Re: Windows update
I went to TOOLS, Windows Update and and downloaded it from Microsoft Download Center. I did not know I already had this program or how to run it. I have not done anything with it so far.

Re: Windows update
OK, you're doing fine. Go to Start > Run, type msconfig and click the OK button, then click the Startup tab at the top of the msconfig window and remove the ticks from the entries in Geekgirl's last post, click Apply and OK, then reboot.

Re: Windows update
Ok before I do this will I be able to click on them again if I want them to start up? Also I have Regcure which cleans my registry, it has a manage startup feature which you can go in and disable what you want at startup time. What about using this instead?
