Hi,
I'm a newbie, perhaps this question has been asked/answered but I cannot find it. Here is my issue My Outlook Express 6 shows the 'paper clip' attachment icon with every message received in my inbox. I have 5 computers, I copy OE files (now using GoodSync) when I'm working on a different computer (approx every 2 weeks). The other computers do not have this problem - just my main desktop grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hope you can help me.... and thank you for taking the time to read this - I appreciate it! |

Re: OE showing attach icon with every message
Here is something else you can try. No promises that this will fix it but it is worth a shot. Only do this if you know what emails with attatchments to open and ones that you shouldnt. Remember only open email attatchments from people you know and trust.
Open email go to tools then go to options then security, take the check out of the box that says (Do not allow Attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.) then apply and OK. Hopefully this fixes it. |

Re: OE showing attach icon with every message
I thought that was the 'box' we were always talking about... it is not and was not checked. However, I did check and restart and then unchecked and restart... no change.
Also, the response from TechSupport alerting me to your response DID NOT have the icon... but when I send myself a test, it shows the icon.. *sigh* Ergo, my issue still remains :-( |

Re: OE showing attach icon with every message
Hi roxbits,
Reading your post and had a thought. Do you have OE set to read in text only? That can cause messages to show they have an attachment when it's only the htm part of the message. T. ![]() |

Re: OE showing attach icon with every message
You kids crack me up.Had another thought. Two in the same day is something. Do the attachment icons show up only in the Inbox or do they show if you move the message to another folder? You didn't say, but when you open the messages, I assume there's no attachment notice below the subject line on the message window? T. ![]() |

Re: OE showing attach icon with every message
Yep. "Aww pooey" pretty much says it.
I had hoped it was Inbox specific. Simple fix for that is create a new Inbox.dbx file. I suppose you could try it on the chance it's starting In the Inbox and carry's over when you move the messages. If you try it, make sure you move the messages you want out of the Inbox before deleting the old DBX file. I'll post instructions for doing that if you need them.T. ![]() |

and now for another twist: when i copied and transfered files to my laptop... the icons did not transfer with... well the ones with true attachments did but those without attachments are 'icon free'. Problem is desktop only Thanks again! I lied, I did a sync and it did copy the icons, my laptop just opened the mail twice, once from the copied and then again from my server (i forgot that i am now saving in server just in case i screw something up) ![]() Last edited by roxbits : 04-07-2007 at 12:08 PM.
