General XP/Computer Problems

Hi, just recently I have been having some problems with my system.

To begin with, every now and then after using my computer for a little, my ViewSonic Widescreen LCD monitor will sometimes fade in and out with a tealish color overlapping the screen. I've checked that the VGA cables are plugged in correctly as well. But, this is no big deal since it usually goes back to normal after it flickers in and out for a few minutes.

Secondly, my computer will sometimes randomly restart. I have only noticed this when playing World of Warcraft so far. The game will usually freeze and then all of a sudden I would be taken to my BIOS boot screen and then it will restart into Windows. Could this be a sign that maybe my power supply is dying out?

Last, but not least, when I first sign into Windows XP, there will be a few windows/dialogues that come up on my screen. One of them is the "Add new hardware" wizard screen for my sound card. One of the other messages is one of those taskbar messages in the system tray that says something like "there was an error trying to install the hardware. please click this message..." and so on. Just a couple months back, I installed a new sound card on my system. I know I installed it correctly because I was able to successfully load the drivers it came with and the software is working fine for it and I am receiving sound just fine as well. I know that probably uninstalling the software and installing it again will probably solve the issue but I would like to know if there is a way I can get XP to recognize that the hardware is successfully installed so I won't have to go searching for the installation disc and such.

If anyone can help with any of these issues, I would appreciate it.

Re: General XP/Computer Problems

It does sound like it could be a PSU issue. Try this PSU Calculator to ensure your getting enough power.

As for the second issue, I think the only way to stop it doing it, is to reinstall it again, as everytime you restart, its recognising the hardware as New.
