Oh dear..

Okay, my computer is SCREWED over. I lent it to a friend and he desomated it. Asking what he did he went into my raid, cleared the hard drives after my computer tried to, and he says succeded in, deleting my my documents.

So now, I have no idea what I should be doing. The computer has no OS ( I was running Windows Xp Professional 64. ) and it won't let me install one. It keeps saying that it can't find one of my hard disks. I go to the raid, and there they both are. I have two 74gb hard drives RAIDed together, and now I have no clue what to do.

and.. /cry

Re: Oh dear..

In order to install XP, you'll need the driver floppy for your RAID controller.

Boot to the XP CD, and watch the bottom closely for "Press F6 to install Third Party Drivers" ... Press F6 a few times. Eventually setup will ask if you need to Specify drivers. Press S, insert the floppy, and press ENTER.

Leave the floppy in until after the first reboot.

Re: Oh dear..

Hi,
Download the driver from the HDD manufacturer. I believe you can put the driver on a CD and use that instead if you don't have a floppy drive.

Re: Oh dear..

Hmm *searches for disks that were given with computer* Hmm.. okay. I tried booting up with this NVIDIA nForce4 series Utility CD, but it won't read it, when I hit F6 it's only asking for a floppy, it won't read a CD. Strange?

Re: Oh dear..

I can't remember the exact installation procedure - I haven't installed XP for a couple of years (I use my back-ups ). But I'm sure I've read somewhere here on the forum that you can install the driver from a CD. Are you able to browse the CD?

Re: Oh dear..

Unfortunately no. All I can do is boot from CD, which gets me as far as to installing windows, go into the BIOS, which, as far as I can tell, does nothing, or go into RAID, which will let me A: Clear the hard drives or B: Delete the array and possibly create a new one. B is what I've been thinking of but I'm not sure how easy it is to create an Array in RAID, and/if/or I could do it.

Re: Oh dear..

Well, I don't know enough about how to create RAID arrays. You have to be patient and wait for a more knowledgeable member to help you with that
