svchost.exe problems

Help!!!,

Have been away for a few days and my darling has installed the following... Real player and lime wire. As a result we have been getting constant svchost.exe application error messages where the memory referenced at "blah" cant be read. The computer doesnt quite freeze, but wont run most programs. If I manage to open task manager before the said freeze takes hold I can see that svchost.exe or one of the 6 instances of it at least has up to 300,000 pagefaults. I end that process tree and the computer goes fine apart from having no sound which sucks bigtime.

When I attempt to play mp3s I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Needless to say so far I have completed a Norton scan, restored to an earlier time, run reg mechanic, spent the better part of 3 hours trying to fix it and now Im now going to walk away calmy before I commit computer homicide... and hopefully come back in the morning to some nice computer guru post on my thread to save the day...

Any help appreciated . Im out of ideas

This is one of the problems with P2P programs. The program itself may be quite safe, but has no control over what it downloads. If you are going to run one of these, it's always wise to run a scan of what's been downloaded. As you already seem to be infected, I suggest you post a HJT log in the HJT log help forum. First read and follow this.

TSF does not support p2p issues. That said, you might want to uninstall limewire for starters and perform the First Steps to malware removal
