Links stopped working
Guys, a friend recently tried out Mozilla firefox but didn’t really like it so went back to IE but had to upgrade from IE 6 to IE 7. Since then all his desktop shortcuts stopped working and now it seems hyperlinks don’t work either. I went back to IE 6 but no different. Tried system restore but wont let him restore to any restore points. Clean of viruses/spyware etc.
Any ideas please?

Re: Links stopped working
That sounds like a classic case of "default browser missing" syndrome. Well that is a stupid name I just made up.
I am assuming all html related files and activities are still stuck in windows association paths as firefox. Here is a cleancut way to force IE into becoming the default. This option allows the browser to prompt you. I'm sure it was disabled during the time Firefox was running do to frequent prompts. So here you go: Start Menu, Control Panel, Internet Options, Then click. You will see a tab at the top called "programs" single click it Look at the bottom for a notation that Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser. First go ahead and make sure it's checked. If it isn't, that's definitely your problem. Click it and close. Then open Internet Explorer on it's own, not with a link. It should them prompt you and you will say yes. If for some reason it is checked but the program has never asked you. You Can click the reset web settings. I have used an option in the start menu under customize start bar sometimes. But the two options I gave you should cover it though the second option is probably not designed to troubleshoot this exact problem. If all else fails, You can force a file association where you hold down the shift key, right click on one of those broken links, and look for the option that says "open with" then look for Internet Explorer and if it's not there, then browse for it under program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe. Let us know. Quote:

Re: Links stopped working
Thanks for the reply, that sounds promising, I'll ask him to do that.

Re: Links stopped working
Please let us know, I'm pretty confident that should solve it though.
