Routing and Remote Access service error
Today I started the new connection wizard in Windows XP PRO SP2 and chose the incoming connections option so I could accept incoming VPN connections but I ran into a problem. The wizard stopped responding for more than five minutes after I hit one of the next buttons so I ended the task using the task manager. I started the wizard over again with the same results. About a minute afterwards, my taskbar suddenly changed themes back into the old Windows 98 format (it went from blue to that grey color). I opened my themes tab in the display properties window only to find that all my themes were gone from the list. Upon further investigation using the event viewer, I found that all of these services "terminated unexpectedly" within a two second period of time:
windows time service, automatic updates, windows audio service, background intelligent transfer service, computer browser service, cryptographic services, DHCP client service, logical disk manager service, COM+ event system service, HID input service, server service, workstation service, routing and remote access service, task scheduler service, system event notification service, shell hardware detection service, themes service, windows management instrumentation service and wireless zero configuration service. I found that I was able to restart each service again without a problem until I got to the one that has to do with VPN and is called the routing and remote access service. When I tried to start that service it gave me error code 1067 and each of the above services that I had restarted all turned off again. I have tried restarting several times and I have also tried running "sfc /scannow" but the problem persists. When I ran sfc, it asked for the XP PRO cd several times even though the cd was already in the drive each time. To get around this problem, I have temporarily disabled the routing and remote access service so that all of the above services run all the time without a problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks, Michael ![]() |
