What startup processes can I disable?
My computer is slow and my hard drive is full, so I'm trying to troubleshoot all potential problems.
What startup processes can I disable? Screenshots from msconfig: ![]() ![]() ![]() If you're so inclined, what processes are running that I don't need? Screenshots from Task Manager: ![]() ![]() Also, what the hell is filling up my 14GB C:/? I have barely any music, my photos and other large folders are on the other side of my partitioned drive, my Program Files are only taking up about 2GB. My Documents are only another 2GB. There's a Windows folder on my C:/ that is another 3GB with unintelligble files and folder names. I guess the real quesiton is how to safely move stuff like Program Files and ITunes Music to the other partitioned drive- I don't want to confuse the hell out of all the existing communication channels between programs. Help! |

Hi and welcome to TSF.
Here are a couple of easy to follow guides to tweaking XP services - probably easier to follow at your leisure than trying to follow something I might come up with. http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/winxp_services/ http://www.ss64.com/ntsyntax/services.html How many HDDs do you have? What is the total capacity and free space? Do you have Windows installed on a separate partition?

Thanks for your reply. I'll see what I can make sense of on those sites.
My HD is partitioned into C:/ and D:/. C:/ 14.3GB used of 14.9GB and D:/ is 5.79GB used of 13GB. Windows is installed on the C:/. Here's what the two drives look like. Folders 01-06 on the D:/ are files I've moved from C:/ to make space. ![]() |

Have you cleaned out Temp files recently?
I have a 12GB partition that contains only Windows. Programmes are installed to another partition. Is your System Restore turned on?
