Networkd card/ Services problem

Hi guys!

Alright... I happened to stumble across a virus from the internet, a beagle that uses wintems.exe as its main proccess. Now usually, if a virus gets into my computer, it's out within 5 minutes, as I boot into DOS and delete from there (that is, if the anti-virus fails). This virus happened to have taken me 8 hours to delete. But I finally managed to get rid of it.

I thought that it was the end of the problem, but when I tried to use my wireless connection, I got this message:
Windows Cannot Configure your wireless connection.
If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software.
If you want Windows to configure your wireless connection, run the Wireless Zero configuration service.

So, I navigate to my services, find that service, and try to run it. I get the following error message coming up:
error:1068 the dependency service or group failed to start

Here is some information about the computer I am using:
It is a laptop, Dell Latitude D600, and the chipset for the network card is an Intel Pro Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI adapter. I am currently running windows XP SP2.

Here are a few things I tried:
1.Uninstalling the network card from the device manager, and restarting compter... same error
2.Uninstalled a software that I beleive used to control the network card... same error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot guys!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I had tried the link that you posted... still, no use.

My greatest fear is that I have to format the computer (it's not the loss of data, it's just that it becomes a big pain!)

I apologise for the invoncenience I caused you. This method had completely slipped my mind when I posted my message. Apart from this, the only other thing that I had tried was to repair the connection, which also failed.

Sorry again for the inconvenience.

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it. Reboot and try the internet

If that does not help, Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

Hi!

Thanks again for your reply. I ran Winsockfix on my computer, and I decided to backup the registry before I ran the program. However, the program came across an error in which it could not back up the registry at all. Anyway, I went through with it, but it still failed.

I also tried the Windows File Protection service, but it did not ask prompt me to insert a CD and nor did it seem to fix anything. The problem still persists.

Thanks a lot for your time

Try this guide, you need to copy and paste it into your browser

How did you exactly remove the worm? Do you remember exactly which beagle worm it was? There are many variants. Symantec has removal tools, have you searched for the tool to see if maybe you have not removed it entirely?

Hi!

I apologise for the late reply... I had exams coming up.

Alright... the website you gave me assumes that the WZC utility can be started, it doesn't start, and says that one of its dependancies failed to stard.

Apparently, the process belongs to either to mitglieder or BAGLE trojen virusses.

I have to say that this virus was very well written, it had a separate program to hide it. this meant that symantec antivirus could not detect it. I scanned for the virus using 5 online virus scanners, none of which found it.

Hijackthis! also did not find the virus. And killbox could not delete the program.

I used a program called BlackLight and it renamed the virus so it could be deleted.

Thanks again for your time
