my internet and youtube

Again, this may not be the right section for this and if its not please move it.

It seems that when i have been on youtube for a little while and watch a few videos it always makes java perform an illegal operation and right after that firefox will have an error and make me shut it down. It also does this in Explorer so i dont know what the problem could be. It also tends to freeze up on youtube...

clicked on both links and both of them showed the correct animated java script picture and said it was successful so i guess that means they are up to date.. lol

EDIT: I just went to youtube and my computer froze about 5 seconds after i watched 1 video. It usually lets me watch 5 or 6 before i have any problems...

Hi nikeman

Well, you've covered the Java side of life. You could also make sure that FireFox and IE are as up-to-date as possible as well - to cover that angle. Visit Windows Update (with IE) & see if any Critical Updates are needed.

Also - why not try some malware scans to rule out that possibility. Run your scans on as "thorough" settings as your scanners allow, run from both Safe Mode and normal, and follow-up with an online scan from a reputable site (HouseCall, Panda, Symantec, etc.).

If you happen to get that error again (or simply can reproduce it) - write down the full message & post it here - look especially to see if you have an option to select a "Details" button that provides more information. A particular module might be mentioned that could help.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Hi again

If you have about ten or fifteen minutes to uninstall a few things, clean up a little, and download fresh copies of some plug-ins, see if this does it:

1) UnInstall Adobe Flash in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
2) UnInstall Adobe Shockwave in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
3) Run a Registry cleaner (If you don't already have one, try CCleaner - as in the link below)
4) Reboot.
5) Download and install the latest Adobe Flash version.
6) Download and install the latest Adobe Shockwave version.
7) Test visit youtube.

Here are the instructions and links for CCleaner:
1) You can download it from this link --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...-10315544.html
2) Use CCleaner's "CleanUp" functions to clear unnecessary and potentially troublesome temporary files from your system.
3) Use CCleaner's "Issues" functions to clear incorrect entries from your Registry (usually leftover from incomplete uninstallers). Run the "Issues" functions for a few times, until it reports "No issues found".

Regarding updating to Adobe Flash 9 - this is strongly recommended, since a security flaw was found in previous versions --- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Macromedia_Flash

Best of luck
. . . Gary

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

Still no change?
What version of Firefox & IE do you have?
Have you looked for updates lately for these browsers?

Do you also have issues with other sites other than youutube? Can you play games successfully?

Try the Video Card Stability Test, post back your findings

Hi again

Geekgirl might know something about the EarthDX9 error in the test - I couldn't find anything specific that accounted for that file. In one thread, someone guessed that perhaps it's a file specialized for Google Earth - but that was just a guess. Depending on the version of Direct X on your system, I suppose you could try reinstalling the latest (and perhaps reinstalling the latest video drivers as well).

In the link I pasted in earlier, about illegal operations in plugins, it has the right uninstall instructions (sorry I mentioned Add/Remove - plugins don't always show up in there - I was a bit tired that night!). Here's the link again, scroll down a ways to the 'illegal operation' section -for more information on that, and the uninstall instructions are on those pages too --- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Macromedia_Flash

Hope it works out soon
. . . Gary

It provides Video Card Stress Testing

Give us your version of DirectX
Click Start>Run and type "dxdiag" and press enter to get full information about your system, DirectX, and other related helpful information. DirectX will be listed near the bottom.

DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

On the 3rd page of that the notes section says:

The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

This procedure is used for identifying the manufacturer and chipset name and version of the video card, using the DOS "DEBUG" command.

1. Get to an MS-DOS Prompt: If you are running a version of Windows, you need to either open an MS-DOS prompt or shut Windows down to MS-DOS mode.
2. Enter the "DEBUG" Program: From the DOS prompt, type "debug" and then {Enter}. The system will display a single dash ("-").
3. Display the Video Card BIOS Area: Type the following, exactly (and nothing else, or you risk doing something to your system that you really don't want to): "d c000:0010" (without quotes). This will display the contents of the beginning part of the video BIOS ROM. The system will display a bunch of hexadecimal digits across most of the screen. On the left-hand side you will see text letters that correspond to these codes. For most video cards, you will see the name of the manufacturer and information about the video chipset type and version number.
4. Scroll Down If Necessary: On some systems you may need to scroll down further to find the information. Do this by typing just "d" and then {Enter}, one or more times. More information will display on the screen.
5. Exit "DEBUG": Press "q" and then {Enter} to quit the debug program.

After identifying the maker of your video card, go to their site and download the correct drivers

I tried restarting in debug mode twice and both times my computer froze.. I dont know what else to do to get to a ms-dos prompt either..
