Re: my internet and youtube

Hi again

If you set the Cell Menu Dynamic Overclocking to "Private" -- that's the 1% setting. You don't need to change any voltages at this point -- and certainly not the cpu voltage. If we can get the exact make/model of your memory modules, we can look up their optimal voltage and timings. Your board is sensitive to both of these settings. Some modules will detect for 2.5, but only run stable at 2.65, for example [the detection is done between the motherboard & the modules - "by SPD" ('Serial Presence Detect').

I also want to see if you have the MSI "DigiCenter" running. If it is, you should see it's icon in the system tray, and it's icon in your Startup Folder on the Start Menu. If you do have it running, try life without it for a while. Remove it's icon from your Startup Folder on the Start Menu, & reboot. [If you want to try the program again later on, simply place the icon back into the Startup folder]. Most of the functionality of DigiCenter is redundant to functions of other software on your system -- and it also has a tie-in to the Cool-n'-Quiet setup that we don't want to use while troubleshooting.

If you don't have DigiCenter running, that's good. Try that Cell menu setting of "Private", and then test the system for stability. First, try a few office programs, some Internet, some streaming, and some multimedia. Then try a game or two. See if you are lockup free with the new settings.

It'd be nice!

Re: my internet and youtube

i changed the BIOS settings and left my computer on overnight and played Blasterball and did normal internet stuff and even scanned my 2 AVGs at the same time while playing the game and it didnt lock up. I dont want to say i think its fixed again because every time i say that I end up coming back 5 mins later to report that it locked up again.. We'll see what happens.

Re: my internet and youtube

Well, like i was afraid of.. It locked up twice since my last reply. I had ALOT going on at the time of the first lockup to really test it. I had a video playing, real player downloading and my scanner going at the same time when it happened. The next time it just locked up when i turned restarted the computer.. I guess its not fixed still. Its very frustrating..

Re: my internet and youtube

Hi Nikeman -

Are you running with the case open? If not, give it a go, and test running that way. . . . & See if anything turned up in EventViewer for the lockups (especially for the lockup while restarting)

Re: my internet and youtube

I got this error when it was booting up...

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
atapi
PCIIde

Also, after it froze and iturned it on again it went to the screen saying that windows failed to boot properly and asked if i wanted to go in safe mode..

looking through even viewer that error seems to be the only error i am getting in the system log.. I got it quite a few times and my computer only failed to boot a couple...

Re: my internet and youtube

Hi again

Sorry for my delay in replying - been busy & had a little flu.

Try downloading the latest motherboard drivers again & installing them - those are motherboard-chipset drivers that the errors refer to.

See if that helps a bit.

Re: my internet and youtube

ok, last time i didnt download the platinum drivers but rather the regular motherboard drivers. But when I first turn my computer on, the time frame where I can enter BIOS or safe mode, before it goes to the windows xp screen it say Platinum on the screen. I always wondered what that was for and I never linked 2 and 2 together until today. I am going to try to install the drivers for the platinum Neo this time and see what happens.. They also have a Latest BIOS download which i am going to go ahead and get also. Maybe this will work, maybe not. I have not had the computer for 3 years yet so if the motherboard has a 3 year warranty then I should still be good to go if its a faulty motherboard. I wish i could test that to be sure its bad before I go through the hassal of sending mine back and waiting for a new one though..

EDIT: I went to download the new BIOS and I got nervous after reading what all I was supposed to do so I didnt do that yet. Then I went to get the new drivers for the mainboard but I do not see anything for the NVIDIA 4 Platinum. Just Pro and Ultra... Which one should I get? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...ist.php?part=1

Re: my internet and youtube

This behavior occurs because your computer processor detected and reported an unrecoverable hardware error to Windows XP. To do this, the processor used the Machine Check Exception (MCE) feature of Pentium processors or the Machine Check Architecture (MCA) feature of some Pentium Pro processors. The following factors may cause this error message:
• System bus errors
• Memory errors that may include parity or Error Correction Code (ECC) problems
• Cache errors in the processor or hardware
• Translation Lookaside Buffers (TLB) errors in the processor
• Other CPU-vendor specific detected hardware problems
• Vendor-specific detected hardware problems

Re: my internet and youtube

Hi again

Since you have a window in your case - see if you can see the markings on the motherboard itself. Sometimes the printed manual that comes with the board is for several models in a series. You need to have exact-match drivers for the motherboard components, and especially for any Bios updates, because those have a great impact on things like timings -- hence the hardware/timing/configuration errors you are seeing when Astra32 opens.

I tried to follow your link to the MSI page, but the link wasn't working this afternoon.

Once you have an exact-match Bios update, and exact-match motherboard drivers, and you've set the Bios to "Fail Safe Defaults" (or try the values we mentioned in our last trip through your Bios Setup) -- if you still get that sort of STOP error and experience lockups under stress, then it could indeed be faulty hardware. We've pretty much been trying to eliminate the configuration/driver side before having you send your motherboard back [it could end up that the cpu is the damaged part - often the only way to tell is to swap out known-good parts].

Sorry I've been slow to respond lately, that cold/flu I had is taking its time moving on!

Re: my internet and youtube

i just called cyberpower as a last resort to see if they could tell me what motherboard i had and they HAVE to have my customer number which i lost over the 2 years (what an idiot I am!, lol). Anyway, he actually acted like I was crazy for calling with no customer number and told me theres nothing he could help me do to help me without it. And yes I asked him if there was a way to look up my customer number with my address and he said no and that I should take the computer to a shop so they can tell me what motherboard i have! lol, talk about a waist of time

EDIT: Called again and asked someone else if I could get my customer number if i lost it and she only needed my name and phone number. Now I am on hold and am going to ask for that list of hardware installed on my computer to be sent to me via email but i have a feeling that that will be to much to ask

Re: my internet and youtube

I'm a little surprised if they don't put your customer number either on a sticker on the computer itself, or include it in a document stored somewhere right there on your hard drive. Look in your Help & Support menus (from XP's Start menu) - many vendors put specialized vendor-specific system & customer information in there. Also look to see if they stuck a "CyberPower" folder on the hard drive somewhere, that might have your documentation.

As far as the markings on the motherboard, see if you can see anything that starts "ver. x" -- this is often the version of the board, and might help identify it. [For example, if your Neo4 is a PCB version 3.1, and there's only a 3.1 version for the Platinum series, that's one way to narrow the possibilities].

Best of luck
. . . Gary

late edit -- just saw your last two posts. Looks like you've got the Neo4-F. Now you need to see if you can find the marking for the PCB version. There were two: version 1.0 and version 3.0. Here's the download page for version 3.0 --- http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=727&kind=1 --- and here's the download page for version 1.0 --- http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=652&kind=1 --- Note that MSI recommends the LiveUpdate utility, which you have already tried: my problem with this is that if the board has been flashed with an inappropriate Bios version somewhere along the way, LiveUpdate might not be able to correctly identify the motherboard anymore. The actual PCB marking on the motherboard itself is the gold standard.

Re: my internet and youtube

Hi again

If you go to the links to the download pages for your board (either version), and click on the "Specs & Features" link in "Relevant Links", it will take you to the main page for your board. On that page, there's a picture of the board, with a "Large Picture" button underneath. Click on it, and it will show a close-up view of the motherboard. Look carefully, and you will see that your model has it's markings placed on the motherboard between the AGP and PCI slots: if you have a large card blocking your view, you might have to temporarily remove it to read the markings. If you see MS-7125 Ver. 1 - then it's version 1.0 of the Neo4-F that you've got. If you see MS-7125 Ver. 3, then you've got version 3.0.

Looks like the biggest change between the two versions was an optional upgrade to SATAII for the SATA controllers.
