Unmountable Boot Volume
I have a dell Dimension 3100...and I was using my computer when i accidentaly spilled water on my power supply....so i immediately turned it off without turning my computer off. So when I boot it up again...i get BSOD - Unmountable Boot Volume.
I know that you can fix this with the WinXP CD using CHKDSK....but I dont have the disk...any ideas? |

Here is an idea to try to repair your computer. It requires 2 things, 1) your original XP disk, and 2) your computer needs to be set up to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive. If you have problems with either one of those two let us know. Here is the repair:

Hi chrozer, welcome to TSF...
without the install disc, you're gonna find it hard to fix. The best advice I can give is ask a friend/relative if you can borrow their install disc so you can boot to the recovery console and perform some tests on the drive.

IF you can't get one from a friend/relative. Try complaining to Dell saying that you had one but lost it and see if they'll replace it for free or a small fee. The worst thing that can happen is that they'll say no.

you can always just get a external hard drive encloser and put your hard drive in it and plug it in to a diffrent computer and go to my computer and right click the drive.( it will be like a external hard drive or flash stick) then right click on the drive and go to properities. then click the tools tab then error checking. then check both the boxes and let it run and it will be fixed
