Cry NTLDR is compressed

Hi everyone again, I posted a few hours ago with this problem and I cant believe no one out there in this wonderful techy forum knows how to fix this. Here is the problem again.
I have this NTLDR is compressed phrase and wont boot to windows. I have read every thing I could to find out to fix this but to no avail. I do not have a full copy of XP. Just the recovery cds. I do however have a older copy of xp from a computer I bought 4 years ago. I do not have a floppy drive. I do have a usb flash drive. I put 3 files on the flash drive.(boot.ini, NTDETECT and one other NT file. I wasnt sure I could use files from an older version of xp for boot purposes or not. I went into my bios and made the usb storage stick the 1st to boot and removable device 2nd and cdrom 3rd. I dont think it worked booting from the flash drive. I tried using the tablet pc recovery cds and trying reinstall with backup. Still compressed. I tried using the older xp cd recovery and it says setup cannot detect any hard drives installed. I can however use the flash drive in combination with the older xp cd and I can get to the c prompt. I have done fixmbr, fixboot, chkdsk. still compressed.I cannot get into safemode. My bios is detecting my hard drive. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!! Also when at c prompt I have done the

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Does not work either.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Quote:
First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the comman prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:
Code:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

Your computer should now reboot

This should work for you, did you reboot?

If this does not work for you I suggest Perform a Repair Installation

My friend has just had this problem. Booted with a CD and replaced the NTLDR.dll, NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini files with fresh ones from his XP disc. Also, he scanned with bootcfg /scan in the recovery console.

Re: NTLDR is compressed

Use this link for Windows XP - http://tinyempire.com/notes/files/fixntldriso.zip Use this link for Windows NT4 & 2000 - http://tinyempire.com/notes/files/fixntldriso4w2k.zip Extract the ISO, Burn, then place it in the CD/DVD Rom drive, (not the burner) close the tray and turn off the PC. Now turn the pc on and it should boot the disc and fix the problem. Also make sure in bios that CDROM drive is set to boot.
