Confused boot from cd failed

Hi i try to boot from cd but after the option
Boot from cd :
appears and i hit enter the disk starts spinning fast but then it slows back down again and after about a minute it says
BOOT FAILED

any thoughts.....
all components are IDE except for the harddisk which is sata2

did you try to use last good configuration or system restore are you able to go to safe mode? what is the boot order in your bios? You may need to set cd for 1st

i agree with huntert. how old is your pc? is the bios set to boot from cd?

Its sorted now even though every part of the computer was brand new i put an old dvd drive in and now it works fine so the dvd drive must of been faulty thanks for the help...
