Two Issues: 1 w/ Windows Defender and 1 w/ IE
Hi,
I currently would like help with two separate issues, one with Windows Defender and the other with Internet Explorer. I am currently getting the following error message whenever I boot up: Windows Defender Application failed to initialize: 0x800106a. A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually. I have restarted several times and cannot find any information that is useful, at least given my computer skill level. I did uninstall WD via the installation exec and reinstalled but the error message still comes up. Since reinstalling there is an update from MS that is continually there even though it says it has installed successfully. That update is: Definition Update for Windows Defender KB915597. Also, since getting this error message, I am unable to start WD. The other issue that I would like to ask help on is with Internet Explorer. Once IE version 7.0.5730.11 was available I installed it via Windows Update. Since then whenever I go to my homepage which is http://dell.myway.com/ I have not been able to read any of their news items. What is displayed is the message 'News items will return shortly. We apologize for this inconvenience.' I can go to Yahoo.com and read their news items however. Thank you for considering these two issues. Regards, BeauMac. |

Open the Control Panel, click on Windows Update When Windows Update opens in a new window, type in Windows Defender into the search box. Click on the first link--<Windows Defender home>. Once opened, click on the orange hyperlink button that reads 'Download it here', and then follow the instructions on screen. Quote:

Still Having Problems With Homepage/ WD Fixed.
Hi Geek Girl,
Thanx very much for getting back to me. Your information to resolve my problem with Windows Defender worked! In regard to not being able to view news items on my homepage http://dell.myway.com/, I did look at my security settings and did not find http://dell.myway.com/ on the lists for Trusted Sites or Restricted Sites. I am a novice computer user so I'm not quite sure what else to look for. Could you tell me, perhaps in a step-by-step approach what else I should do. There is one other piece of information that may be useful. I do have a warning message on the lower left side of IE even using this website that says '! Done, but with errors on page'. Once again, thanx very much for your attention to this. Best wishes, BeauMac. |

Java, Macromedia Shockwave & Flash Players Seem To Be Working Fine.
Hi Geek Girl,
I've either checked or downloaded and installed the items that I've mentioned in the title of this post. I didn't have much success from reviewing the information at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260 primarily because I wasn't sure how to review the settings in my Zone Alarm Free fire wall or AVG's Free anti-virus scanner. I appreciate your patience at my computing ineptitude and don't want to spin your wheels much more. I have made Yahoo.com my homepage which displays just fine. Even though I do get the message '! Done, but with errors on page' while using this site it doesn't seem that I'm missing any content. If you would like to pursue this any further I'll look in again on this thread in the next day or two, otherwise I'll be happy to live with what I've got. Much thanx and best wishes, BeauMac. |
