Hi,
I am on XP SP2 P4 2.6 GHz and 512 MB RAM. I am frequently getting this error for about a month now: ![]() When I click for details this is what I get: Error Signature: EventType : BEX P1 : svchost.exe P2 : 5.1.2600.2180 P3 : 41107ed6 P4 : netapi32.dll P5 : 5.1.2600.2180 P6 : 411096ac P7 : 0000a3c0 P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000 Technical Information: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5b1d.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5b1d.dir00\appcompat.txt All of a sudden this error pops out and what it does is that if i click on "Close" button. my broadband internet connection stops. The status shows connected but I am not able to open any sites then and if I just ignore this error by dragging it to one side without closing it, i get the same problem with my internet after a few minutes i.e. I am unable to open any sites. I have to restart the PC before I can access the net again. Everything else seems to work normally except the net. Please help. Thanks in advance. |

i had this exact same problem too. what i did was do a repair install of xp, that put all the os files back. Do this by entering your XP cd and select from the menu to repair install. There is also a hotfix that may help more detail here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391

I get pretty suspicious when files in the temp directory cause problems, as that is where all the malware installs to and operates from. Not to say for sure it IS malware, but I'd be getting rid of that stuff immediately by using "CleanUp", downloadable by a simple Google search.
Okay I just did a bit of reading and found one site that associates this file to an infection of the MSBLAST worm. Frankly I didn't really trust the site's "authority" but the site was pretty clear on exactly what it was, etc... http://www.updatexp.com/msblast-exe.html Given the fairly high possibility that this could be a serious infection, I would advise following the steps outlined in the stickies of the Securities sub-forum and wait for an expert to help you further. I would also advise not only not trying to repair this yourself, but also to not take suggestions from anyone other than TSF staff on this, as it could be pretty serious and require expert help. |

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. So far I have applied only this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391 as told by bigfellla in the post above. I have only ran my PC for about 3 hours since then and the problem has not resurfaced yet. If it comes back again as it used to earlier then i'll need further help for sure.
Waiting for inputs from TSF staff as well on this issue. Thanks |

Mate, go to the HJT forum and follow the 5 step process, and post a log. That will put you in good step.
