I just got The Sims 2 which requires DirectX 9.0c to run. The CD comes with it so i go to install it and it "installs" instantly. The problem with that is that it does not install at all. DirectX 9.0b still remains the version on my PC. I then decided to try to download it from Microsoft thinking maybe the version on the CD somehow is corrupt or something. The same thing happens. It "installs" instantly but yet does not install at all. I tried deleting it from the registry and reinstalling, i've tried the directX eradicator and reinstalling but no such luck. Now not even 9.0b will install. Is this the time for a reformat? I would prefer not to but have no clue what the heck is going on.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks DarkNemesis618 Windows XP Professional SP2 Pentium 4 - 2.0GHz 768MB PC2100 DDR RAM MSI GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 256DDR |

The web update version extracts the required files to C:\windows\temp, or wherever you have your temp directory, you then need to go to the inpacked files and run setup, if as you say it's doing this almost instantly it sound like the files are just being unpacked, why it couldn't autorun after unpacking is a mystery to me.

i'm going to assume you mean you have installed windows xp with an SP2 slipstream cd... if your windows xp cd already has sp2 on it, then i am not sure what you can do about that. however, since sp2 hasnt found it's way onto factory original cd's yet, you should still have the original non-sp cd that you originally purchased. you might try slipstreaming that with SP1 and then installing it that way.

"Hardware-accelerated Direct3D 9 is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer." And when I try to run Sims2 it begins to load, then errors, saying "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system. Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer." Would uninstalling/reinstalling sp2 help with that? If not, what do I need to do?

I have tried to use direcx9.0c on my friend computer. Many bugs fixed expecially when playing the old game like red alert 2. I mean the game run smoothly. If you really want to install it this is how you must do.But you must have installer for direcx9.0b and directx9.0c.
first step extract the directx 9.0b in one folder second step extract the directx 9.0c into the other folder third step notice all the *.cab file in the directx 9.0c folder forth step copy all the *.cab file from directx9.0c and replaced it in the folder for directx9.0b final step install the intaller in directx 9.0b and walla, you with have directx9.0c already install in your computer this will definitely install directx 9.0c and fully workble without any error from:manlaju |

Same with Win Server 2003 Standard, SP1
I have the same problem with Win Server 2003 Standard, SP1, but additionally on dxdiag I have AGP Texture Acceleration "Not Availible"
I am running dual with XP sp1 (since sp2 have problems with some network protocols I am using) and I have no problems at all. In XP it works fine with 9.0c and there is no problem with the AGP Texture Acceleration. I am using the same drivers in both XP and 2003. Thanks |

ok, i am curious, what is a user to do if they have sp2 on their machine, and cannot roll back?
also, what sorts of problems is a user going to encounter when they uninstall sp2? what is the recommended way of going about all this?
