Activate this copy of windows?

Hi guys, so here is the deal, I did a clean boot of my computer yesterday, and after switching back from that I got this message...

It said that my hardware had changed dramatically? I did nothing different other than a clean boot, and then boot normally. What am I to do now? I click on the activation icon that placed itself in my toolbar, but attempting to access it only results in it brining up a blank window.

Windows came pre-loaded on my machine, I hope I don't have to give a product key or something because I am pretty sure I don't have any of that information, If I even had it in the first place.

Have any of you ever heard of this happening? Any advice?

You will have to re-activate. Try using the built in icon under "System Tools" found in the Program Start "Accessories". If it fails, you will have no choice but to call Microsoft (in India, don't worry toll free). If you explain what happened, and promise you installed it on only one PC, they will help you actvate it.

What brand? There should be a sticker on the case that has the MS Windows ProductID ... If not, then you're up the creek, and will need to contact whoever built the system to get the license from them.

There is icon under System Tools...

And now when I clikc on the icon in the taskbar I get an Internet page telling m,e how to activate(the same way you told me), or buy a "Genuine Key"

What I really don't get is why this happened in the first place...

Also, when Is tart up windows, after the icons come up a few messages appear one after the other that say "Program canot be found" or some such thing. Only the word program is replaced with a few of those retangular Blocks that I don't know how to type...

The brand is Ciciero, I bought it from Futureshop several years ago, and completely switched up the hardware at the beginning of June.

Only now is this happening, now its not even lettin g me log on, which is very detrimental becasue I am a student andd need access to my work.

And yes the product key for windows is on the case, but I can't use it because that stupid Activate thing just brings up a blank window...

I called microsoft and they asked for my installation code, the stupid woman did understand what I meant when I said "BLANK ****ING SCREEN" and I got transfered about 6 times, until I was told to reformat...

****ing Microsoft, what a bunch of idiots, so now I have to re-install windows and lose everything on my harddrive including ir-replkaceable essays and other course-work. Oh and the 1500 word essay dure tommorrow, thats gone too...

Lucky me, **** you Bill Gates.

EDIT: FOrgot to mention that they charged me for the calls too, what a world we ,live in eh?

You may.

However, I would (if you have access to another pc) take your hard drive out, and inbstall it as a slave drive in another system. Then, copy your critical data to a folder on that system.

Now, you can wipe, reinstall, and still have access to your data (burn it to cd).

I was not able to do this, but I did manage to get ahold of the recovery CD that came with my PC, with it i was able to reformat and still save my work files...

I have another 30 days to activate, but I just need to get my network up and running, whihc is proving difficult since I haven't done it in a while :)
