Fast User Switching

hi i have had this problem since installing the new nvidia drivers for my system and also since installing the Alienguise Theme Suite.

MY logon screen automatically chaged to classic logon when i installed these apps. and i cant change it back. when i try to change this in user accounts. a error window comes up telling me that i must uninstall an application that has recently disabled this feature. it tells me that a file related to this application which is responsible for this is called RtlGina2.dll

anyone able to help me sort this out?
Kind Regards, Veraedon

Hi...

have you tried searching for that file on your pc...rtlgina2.dll? Its location may give you more of a clue on how to fix it.

Also, have a look in services.msc to make sure the Fast User Switching service is set to automatic or manual and is running.

Hope that helps :-)

You can try right clicking the .dll file, then select 'Properties' then the 'Version' tab. It should then tell you the manafacturer and some more details :-)

Given the lack of any information from google on RtlGina2.dll (only two hits) or any variation/ the location specified by you in the screenshot (C:\Windows\System32) and the characteristics present (your mention of no attachment to any applications ) I would say this is malware probably with a hidden invisible secondary component which must be identified.
Please follow the five steps link in my signature below and post a hijackthis log file for an analyst to guide you through proper removal of your infestation and repair of any damage.

ill try this when i get home from work. another thing, this malware causes my pc to take at least 5minutes to load the shutdown taskbar. .. :S so this will allow me to change my logon screen options again? tnx for info, and is there any anti spyware or antivirus apps that would prevent this from happening again? Kind regards . veraedon

I just completed the removal of this piece of garbage. When I removed it from the windows\system32 directory, the boot-up process would not complete. Finally, using safe mode, I deleted all references to it from the registry using regedit.exe. (Use with caution; back up registry first, etc. precautions) After doing so, my computer booted fine without the login window. (I only have one user account).
The culprit for this little jewel is evidently Netgear. See http://forum1.netgear.com/support/vi...c.php?p=121748.
Rhetorical question: Why do some companies irritate their customer so much by such arrogant programming? No answer expected.

About a week ago, I purchased a couple of refurbished Netgear WG111v2 USB 802.11g wireless adapters. I noticed that my Windows Welcome login was no longer there and fast user switching was disabled. Since I seem to have "fixed" the problem, I thought I would post my solution here since this came up as one of the few search hits for "rtlgina2.dll".

Note: This will not allow you to use the "nifty" Netgear GUI for wireless settings/info--you'll have to use the generic Windows wireless connection manager.

HOW-TO:
1. Grab a set of drivers downloaded from Netgear's site. For my WG111v2 adapter, I used the software/driver/utility Version 2.0.0.
2. Inside the .zip file there is a file titled "Data1.cab" (hopefully the name is the same for other adapters)--extract the contents of this file into a folder. If you can't extract it, use an application like WinRAR or ALZip.
3. If you currently have the Netgear software installed, goto Add/Remove and uninstall it.
4. After the uninstall is complete, goto your Control Panel and click on "User Accounts". Then, click on "Change the way users log on or off". (fyi, I have McAffee on my system so it alerts me that it doesn't like the script it detected but I tell it to allow it.)
5. Make sure the "Use the Welcome screen" and "Use Fast User Switching" are checked and click "Apply Options".
6. Now, if your Netgear USB is still plugged in, unplug it and plug it back in. This will cause Windows to re-detect the adapter. If your adapter is a PC Card, remove it and re-insert it. If your adapter is a PCI card, perhaps performing a search/scan for new hardware in the device manager will re-detect it.
7. When the new hardware wizard appears, it will ask if you want to connect to Windows Update to search for the driver. Select "No, not this time".
8. When the new hardware wizard asks if you want to install it automatically, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
9. Search for the driver in the folder where you extracted the contents of "Data1.cab" earlier.
VOILA!

Hope this helps...

Randy.

I had the same exact issue, and after trying things all day, I finally did some research online and saw your solution. I managed to boot up in safe mode and uninstall the netgear software. Now I can get onto my computer etc.
But I do not know how to install the netgear software properly so this does not happen agian. I tried what you suggested, but it wants me to connect to the internet and update Windows... I do not have the computer connected to an internet connection right now... will I have to move everything back to the other room and connect to the verizon connection??? Also I do not know what this meant....

Search for the driver in the folder where you extracted the contents of "Data1.cab" earlier...

Can you help?
thanks
