BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

Hi, two problems...my USB ports stop working after a little while, upon bootup. It will stop detecting anything that I plug-in. Second problem...I get a BSOD when I try to restart or shutdown my computer. After 10-15 minutes, it says "Driver_Power_State_Failure", then reboots. I need help!

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

I only analyzed the last 3 dump files. The rest were from November and you didn't have any in December.

This one appears to blame hpdskflt.sys - a component of the Hewlett-Packard Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter

Please uninstall the HP Mobile Data Protection system and see if that stops the BSOD's. If so, and if you wish to reinstall the HP software, please download a fresh copy from the HP website in order to install it.

Also, Please update or remove these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager. Please use the following instructions to locate the most current drivers:
Quote:
How To Find Updated Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- some driver links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers:
Code:
000.fcl Fri Sep 26 09:11:12 2008 - Cyberlink CD/DVD driver
Accelerometer.sys Thu Aug 07 10:28:52 2008 - HP Mobile Data Protection System Accelerometer

iaStor.sys Tue Apr 15 20:07:31 2008 - Intel Storage drivers
jmcr.sys Fri Jul 04 03:42:58 2008 - JMicron JMB38X Memory Card Reader Driver

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

Hi, I've tried to replace all of the old drivers, including manually copying the hpdskflt.sys file over to the c:\windows\system32\drivers directory because I was having a lot of problems uninstalling the old drivers. I am still getting the BSOD and my USB ports are still crapping out a few minutes after bootup though. Can you analyze my latest dump file?

Still blames hpdskflt.sys - a component of the Hewlett-Packard Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter

Please visit this link to download the latest drivers for your system from HP (that'll get us a good start at this): http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Looku...&submit=Go+%BB

In particular, download and install the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

Well, I'm still getting the BSOD and my USB ports still aren't working after bootup. It's weird that you are still seeing the old drivers in my system because I've updated probably 75% of the "old drivers" that you listed above, and I have verified the version numbers in the Device Manager. Any reasons why this might be? Or did you look at an older driver version list?? I'm not sure what else to do here...

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

I'm not really sure what else to do here. I'm hoping that there was something wrong with the last two files that I sent you, so I'm sending the latest BSOD files.

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

The older files are those listed as loaded during the system crashes.

Let's go about this a different way - please provide us with the exact make and model of your HP system. It's number 1 in the illustrations at this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...&product=18073

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

We need the exact product # from the bottom of the Notebook.

This is what a search at HP Support comes up with for HDX16

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

Let's work with the hpdskflt.sys driver for now. Once we've fixed that problem, then we can deal with the rest of the drivers.

Please go to Start...Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
Uninstall/remove this: HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Reboot
Download this and install it: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=4062&lang=en
Reboot
The package is dated 2009-09-25, and the 32 bit version of hpdskflt.sys that it contains is dated 7-8-2009 and is version 4.0.2.1

Once that's installed, wait to see if you get further BSOD's.

To get more info on the dates of drivers - you'll have to be more specific about which drivers you're checking and how you're checking them and what website you're getting them from. As you can see from the above package - the package date isn't the same as the driver date.

Re: BSOD on shutdown & USB ports stop working after bootup

Ok, I've uninstalled the HP 3d Driveguard software and uninstalled the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection drivers. These two items were definitely the culprit of my problems. I tried reinstalling the latest versions of 3d Driveguard, but the problem comes back every time I reinstall. I'm just going to leave it off of my computer for now, as everything seems to be working fine without the software. I guess I just won't have any "hard drive parking" protection on my laptop. The alternative is BSOD every time I shut down...

thanks for your help. You can consider this problem SOLVED.
