Re: PC Boots up slow.
Are you running a current anti-virus program on the computer?
How full is the hard drive? Have you ever cleaned the registry? (not a good thing) What happened before this started happening? Any changed made to the computer? |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
No because i dont know the best one, as most of them EAt at resources and make pc going slower than normal.
not full 166GB out of 226 reason why its 226 cause it is a 250Gb but Windows 7 takes quite alot to install Nope never touched the registry cause it can mess computer up, only thing i have done is removed say a programme from the registry to completly uninstall it if doesnt get removed upon deleting it from control panel that is about it. Nothings when i first installed Windows 7 it was fine and then a week or 2 later it started doing this :( and have no clue why |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
So you have NO anti-virus software on this computer? Have you used it to access the Internet?
Was this a Windows 7 "upgrade" or "fresh install". Upgrades cause problems. Fresh install is the way to go. |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
You could enable OS boot information and boot logging to see what's happening while the system is booting.
Open msconfig by typing msconfig into the Start menu search box and press enter. On the Boot tab, enable both Boot log and OS boot information. Upon rebooting the system, you should see what's happening during boot and possibly where the hang is occurring. Enabling the boot log should create a file named ntbtlog.txt in your C:\Windows directory. This file may be helpful to determine what exactly is happening. You may also want to check the System log in Event Viewer for errors. Particularly right after a startup. It could also be possible that the problem is not caused by a hang during the actual boot process, but rather by a service or program running at startup. Regardless, if your problem did not occur until the system was finished with the actual boot process, but before the login screen (and after you enter your password), it's likely related to a service or program running at startup. This would be a little harder to figure out. EDIT: I also second the decision below to run a scan with Security Essentials. Last edited by Immatix; 12-21-2009 at 12:50 AM. |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
I would install Security Essentials for starters
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ Then run a full scan |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
Some of those that state "Did not load driver" are normal.
Did you happen to notice an abnormally long hang on any of these when you had OS boot information enabled? If not, the problem is almost certainly a service or program that's set to run at startup. Last edited by Immatix; 12-21-2009 at 01:15 AM. |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
I'm betting on it being a service or program set to run at startup causing the issue. Let the Security Essentials scan complete and see if it finds anything.
The next step is going to be opening msconfig and choosing Diagnostic Startup in the General tab and rebooting. See if the problem goes away. If so, the delay in the boot process is related to a service or startup entry. |

Re: PC Boots up slow.
Hi, i think i have solved the problem it was because i was mss matching RAM cause i had 2 different sorts in there one DDR2 800MHZ and another one which is DDR SDRAM which is older. Cause since i took 1 of the memories out it seems to off made the pc alot faster on BOOT.

Re: PC Boots up slow.
Cool. On a side note, be sure and install anti-virus software on that computer (and keep it current) or you'll be right back here trying to solve an infection.

Re: PC Boots up slow.
one problem i found that was using all my hard drive when i logged in was superfetch.
You can safely disable it. press windows button + r type services.msc scroll down to superfetch. right click it press stop services and click the drop down menu, change automatic to disable. exit the window. This saves alot of time on boot up. Vista tries to learn and cache programs you use into ram, all on start up. It is a waste of ram and cpu, causing slow boot ups and does not improve performance. also try the trial edition of Perfect Disk. Its a defragmenting program. Its the best I have seen out there because it arranges your hard drive with its s.m.a.r.t. technology, and can defrag system files such as the pagefile, and other system files used on boot up, thus increasing the boot speed more. |
