No Audio Output Device Is Installed?
I had a problem where for no aparent reason a message would pop up saying that my browser had stopped working and had to restart. It got annoying losing everything I was working on so I installed some updates. That problem seems to be solved, but now there is no sound. The speaker ing the corner has an "X" over it and when hovered over, says "No Audio Output Device Installed". I have tried Going through the device manager and scaning for installed software, as well as checking for an update. Under the sound, video, and controllers tab it shows that I have realtek high definition audio installed, and when double clicked says the device is working properly, but under the sound tab in hardware and sound, it states that no device is installed. I have also tried restarting with no success. Heasphones do not work either. I am using a labtop on vista. Here are what system info i can find.
OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001 Other OS Description Not Available OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name NGRAVATT-PC System Manufacturer TOSHIBA System Model Satellite A205 System Type X86-based PC Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies LTD 2.00, 1/31/2008 SMBIOS Version 2.4 Windows Directory C:\Windows System Directory C:\Windows\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume2 Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.0.6001.18000" User Name NGRAVATT-PC\Jakuza Time Zone Central Standard Time Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 1.00 GB Total Physical Memory 0.99 GB Available Physical Memory 156 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.24 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.05 GB Page File Space 1.28 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys Name Realtek High Definition Audio Manufacturer Realtek Status OK PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0268&SUBSYS_1179FF14&REV_1000\4&5BD83F2&0&0001 Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\rtkvhda.sys (6.0.1.5406, 1.69 MB (1,771,944 bytes), 11/6/2007 4:27 PM) I suppose that if all else fails, I can do a system restore, but then I'll just be stuck with the browser failing again. Can anybody help? |

Re: No Audio Output Device Is Installed?
hello
try this. right click your speaker icon (next to clock) choose: sounds then choose the playback tab. is there a green check mark next to speakers ? if not click speakers. click set default. click apply. if yes try uninstalling your realtek high definition audio and reboot let windows reinstall. good luck

Re: No Audio Output Device Is Installed?
At last, I can hear again! Thanks! I didn't install the first option though, I just tried reinstalling my origional. If it causes a problem I'll Either repete the process, or try the other. Thanks again.
